1 of my cats recently went missing for about 3 days, while he was missing my other cat didn't eat and just kept moaning obivously it was because smudge was missing. Anyway one tuesday morning i woke up and he was outside the back door just laying there i was so happy to see him until i saw his leg dangling thinking it was broken i took him to the vets they told me he had been hit by a car and he would have to stay in over night anyway he stayed in for 1 week and the whole time my other cat didn't eat. Now smudge is back home and scruffy won't go anywhere near him and still wont wat what should i do?

Is the cat who's not eating, drinking water?
Try feeding him in a different room away from the cat that is injured.

I wouldn't let the not eating thing go on for much longer and if he's not drinking that even worse.
According to my Vet...no more than a day without water and no more than a couple of days without food.
Although it is possible that he's eating and drinking when you're not around, perhaps when you're at work or sleeping.

Another trick my Vet gave me was putting vanilla on the base of the tail and back of the neck of both cats....the cat who's been at the Vet has a different smell the vanilla makes them both smell alike.
I've used the vanilla in the past and it works like a charm.

Hope this helps and I hope both of your cats get back to their old selves.

I used to be a Veterinary Technician, so I have some advice for you. I say don't worry about the cat that is not eating. Your cat will come around and eat when it is ready. The cat that was lost and now injured, had been away for quite a while, and your other cat was most likely mourning the loss. Now that the injured cat is home, the other cat senses that something is bad wrong with it. Cats are very sensitive to smells, and can tell when another animal is injured. Your injured cat smells different to your cat that never left home. It was out on the streets, hit by a car, in a vet clinic. Leave their relationship alone and don't try to force them together. They will come around in a few days, and get back to normal. Just keep providing clean food and water, and I bet your normal cat will come around in no time. It's kind of like getting a new cat all over again. You can't force them to get along and be friends. They have to do it on their own terms. They sense each others pain and injuries. I imagine your non injured cat is still very concerned and somewhat still mourning for the injured cat. Good luck on your cat's recovery, and I commend you for taking it to the vet to get the leg fixed.

I agree with the first answer. The injured cat has been away for a while and he's been to the vet.....he carries the vet smell. Animals are great at recognising that smell. Don't force it. Your injured cat will soon get ride of that scary smell, he will get back to his old habits and scruffy will go back to his old ways with smudge. Cats need patience!

mabe scruffy is jealouse that smudge is being treated with more care because of his broken leg.
so he's avoiding smudge.
smudge will prbably try to interact with scruffy and scruffy will come to his sences.
just see what happens and hope for the best.
good luck with the cats.
