RE:
Are you supposed to tip the mattress delivery guy? What about furniture delivery men?
I am having a mattress set delivered today and a bed tomorrow, do I tip them both (both from different stores) and how much is acceptable?

It is really up to you, if there is a extra problem in the delivery yes you tip like $5.00 per person. If no stairs or such and delivery is very easy, just a nice smile and thank you is appropriate. If the delivery does not go the way it should, or is not what you think you paid for, complain and get it straightened out. Make sure before they even take the items out of the truck that what you have on your receipt, matches what they have on their orders.
Good Luck

I would say yes, you should tip them if you feel they deserve it. I always try to tip the valet, cab caller, bell hop, baggage handler at the airport express check in, carpet cleaners, barber/stylist, and of course wait-staff. Not all those I listed deserve a tip every time, but if your carpet guy spent extra time getting a spot out of the rug he deserves a tip.
I believe that if your delivery men took care to place your items in their final place and made an effort to wipe their feet and watch the walls, etc. then they might deserve a small tip.
I would say a nice amount would be $5 -$10 each guy for 2 but if there is more than two - maybe $3 each. This gives them enough to know you appreciated them and let them go buy a cold drink or cup of coffee on the way back to the shop.
Hope this helps.

What delivery guys deem decent and fair for ea person.
$3 for twins
$5 for fulls
$10 for queens
$20 for kings
Yes based on the Service and Courtesy given to you. If there careful of your belongings replacing an old set for the new one or calling ahead giving you a friendly courtesy call arriving with a professional attitude presenting themselves with names and what they are delivering asking if they can enter your home making you feel at ease during the whole experience then yes.
We tip a waiter who brings a 1 lb hot plate 20 feet from the kitchen to your table why not a guy who makes the minimum hauling a 100-300 lb mattress? Also a lot of consumers haggle with "salesmen" ( Who just write an invoice and get a commission anyways) on the price of a mattress saving anywhere from $50 to $200 why not give the delivery drivers a fair and modest percentage based on what you already saved? if all your needs and expectations are met of course.
Here's a example cost of your paying for If you feel this information has helped you then tip a delivery guy coming from a "regular Joe" who was one.
Example: You paid $1200 for a king set right Now the house or "store" paid $600 (cost) from the "manufacture company" these guys make the mattresses for the stores to sell.
Now here's the part everyone dose not factor...Operation cost of the store.
Example: lights, advertising, lease of the building, trucks, gas, insurance, web, warehouse and customer service employees ect...-$300
The store profits $300 this is just an example could be more or less based on cost of operation and location.
The store then gives a bonus or commission to the salesmen and managers at the end of the quarter so they could pay 3% to 5% that's $30 to $60 based on the store policy.
The delivery guys (bottom of the totem pole) get the bare minimum pay but do the hardest job.
Now some deliveries are easy like bottom floor delivery no old sets to take out maybe 20 feet from the truck to the bedroom that's what you call "easy" that in itself is a tip. but....
Example: lets say you have a 20 year old king set needs to come out with a full set that lil bobby used to pee on and lets not forget sarah's twin set too.
3 sets out 3 sets in. 35 to 45 min of work
you paid $2400 ......whats 1% to 3% to the delivery guys?
or go by what delivery guys deem decent and fair.
$3 for twins
$5 for fulls
$10 for queens
$20 for kings

I work for a a large furniture retailer.(We sell furniture and mattresses). You are not obligated to tip the delivery men. They get paid based on the deliveries they complete. If the driver goes above and beyond and you feel like tipping them, that is your call. For example our delivery men are not required to move your existing furniture(liability issues), you should already have your space ready. So if they were to move your old sofa to the guest room or something like that, it would be a nice gesture to tip them. I had to go out on a delivery truck for one day with a delivery team and only 1 stop tipped the team(2 guys) because she had them move the existing furniture around in the room and reposition what they delivered 3 times. So as a rule, tipping is not
required.

No you don't you have to, you already bought the bed and mattress. The price for delivery was in the price of the bed and mattress. You go out to eat or drink, the gratuity is not figured in the price of the food. Your tipping for the service and there could differ greatly, fast and friendly to slow and grouchy.

~~I never have. I really don't know the proper etiquette on this, but I have never heard of anyone else tipping either. It seems this is a job that is salaried, and not dependent on tips.~~

No they are doing a job and get paid for it. When you start thinking that you have to tip everyone then the world is going to be a pretty expensive place. Tipping a waiter or a waitress is not something that has to be done either unless the person provided excellent service and went out of his or her way to make sure you were comfortable and received everything the way you wanted it. They are your go between between the chef and yourself. All the matress guys are doing is delivering something which you already bought and paid for. Would you tip a clerk who brought the wallpaper you ordered to the desk so that you could take it home? Would you tip the butcher who cut a steak for you or the cashier who bagged all of your groceries? I think tipping has gone overboard even in the food service industry. If the restaurant paid their employees enough then they wouldn't have to have a tip to make a decent wage so basically some waiters and waitresses are simply people off the street with little experience working a bad paying job and the restaurant owner wants you to anti up more of your money to keep them wanting to work that bad paying job. Others are almost experts in their field and can make an ordinary meal into a fantastic one by the suggestions they are able to throw out for customers considerations. The last time that I ate out the waitress knew everyone of the beers the establishment served and could recite the list of about 49 selections off by heart. Hearing names that you had almost forgotten brought to mind good times and a desire to try an old forgotten favourite once again. She also made comments about the food selection that deserved receiving a tip from very satisfied customers. I would say no tip and make sure they remove their shoes at the door. Rest easy and enjoy your new mattress set and bed.
