hello, im 230 lbs 5'4 and i want to lose weight ..before i had my son i was 175 and felt good, now its just bothering me all this fat hanging in my arms and my stomach. i was planning on walking 3 times a week with my friend (but how much should i walk or how long aprox.?) and i was gonna use Push-and-pull bands for my arms at home. Would this be ok to lose some fat around my arms especially ? I cant join a gym .. i also suffer from muscle spasms every morning on my back. any advice is appreciated and if a fat burner with healthy diet would go with all this?

Hello, My name is Sherri, and yes, walking, and exercising is a very good way to lose weight, I weigh about the same as you,(233 lbs.),(I have three children), and I am starting what I call a personal walk-a-thong,(walking around a track, at a nearby school, also my kids walk with me, they go to school there), and keep a log of how much you walk per day. You should always watch what you eat too, a very healthy diet, with fruits, and vegetables, no sweets, or fatty foods, and you will lose weight even faster. (*If you would like to lose weight faster). I can't join a gym either, and how much walking? You should gradually start out with a half of a mile, which is 2 trips around a track or a football field,(* if you have a school close to where you live) Than gradually the next time, walk a mile, like 4 trips around the track. Don't do a whole lot the first time, because you will be way too sore, to continue the next time.Walking gradually, also will help the muscle spasms in your back, when you do a little at a time, each time, your spasms will get better. Three times a week at first, is a great way to start, than increase to a fourth day the following week, if you can. The best supplements I found is, "Hoodia" supplements are a great new fat burner, and its also a safe way to use a supplement with a healthy diet, "expensive, but safe".!! I hope I helped you out just a little. Good luck, and take care of yourself !!

Yes you can lose weight by just walking because you are still exercising is some way. You are burning calories. Therefore you will also lose weight. I think it is best if you walk in something hot that way you will sweat and lose weight faster. Yes, a push-and-pull band will work to change your arm fat to muscle. All this may take some time, though, but if losing weight is something that you really want to do, then you must be patient. Good things take time.

Walking is a great way to lose weight, but it really only works with consistancy. You really have to do some walking every day, at an absolute minimum of a half hour, and it also works better if you walk quickly. (more steps, more exersize, more fat and calories burned)
This is a lot easier to accomplish if you don't have to take a car everywhere you go, so those of us who live in a city with good public transportation will find this a bit easier. One can always get off a bus or train at a further distance away from one's final destination and walk the remaining distance.

Diet and exercise. Eat good healthy foods. As far as walking, start off slow and make sure you have good footwear. Increase the the length of time and the pace as you become more comfortable. Also, go slow on the weight loss. A pound or 2 each week is plenty. Other wise, you are probably looking at surgery to remove excess skin after a sudden weight loss.

I wish you well and applaud your decision to live healthier.

The baest way is to start slow, don't overexert yourself by trying to do too much at one time.
First off get a clean bill of health from your Doc. Then before EACH excersie strecth the muscle groups you are going to be working out, before and after the completion of the excersice, this will help you become more flexible each time and prevent muscles aches.
As far as Diet is concern different ppl do different things that work for them.
A good balanced diet includes fruits and veggies, avoid too much bread, starch, and sugars. No candies or coke.
If you are going to start by walking after 20 min of continus excercise your body will begin to break down the fat.
This of course are just a few pinters to help you in the right direction you should always consult a professional and don't over do your body.

hey I'm in the same boat, and let me tell you their is no easy way around it, if their was I would have found it and as my doctor says she would have been a millionaire by now. so we stop eating a few thing like junk and white bread and sugar and keep to 1200 cal diet. and when we start walking and the cramping is because your legs are not used to all the walking so start slow. I time my self so if your just starting out, when you leave your house time 1 hour walk and you don't have to speed walk the first day. take your time and before you know it you ll be walking further and further every day 3 times a week is good

u have to get up early, walk a minumum of 1 km to start and go till 5 kms. when walking start slowly and then brisk walk, the arms should swing like the soilders do, the breathing should be stopped itermittantly and started. At the end of the walk do deep breathing by closing one nostrils and releasing by closing the open nostrils.

Do running by standing in one place after walking for 2-5 minutes.
Eat less (about 70%) at night and eat before 2 hours u sleep.
Prefer raw vegetable in your diet, like cucumber, carrot, tomatoes etc.
Before u begin pray to ur God that I should be able to reduce 10 pounds (or more) in a month.

The result is certain.

IF GOD IS WITH ME WHO CAN BE AGAINST ME!!!!

YES you can loose weight by walking , but your walking should be bit fast and it should bring lost of sweet to you. I have personally seen a women loosing her weight like that , but its bit time taking . You can also try by jogging but just if you really want to loose your weight jogging for 5 to 10 min will not do, and also you have to control your food with that .

Ok. I will try and help all i can. ^_^

To start with, walking is a healthy excercise thats great for burning fat. You just have to make sure you walk fast enough to get your heart rate up. They sell devices that track your heart rate at sporting goods stores. It is reccomended that you walk for at least 30 minutes, you can walk even longer for up 60 minutes depending on your level of health. (you can also start at 30 and work your way up) If you dont have, or you dont want to buy the heart rate devise, you can do the walk n sing test. If you cannot talk with your friends in a normal way when you walk, slow down. But, if you can sing normally, then its best to speed it up a bit.

One thing you are trying to do is spot reduce with the push-and-pull bands, you cannot spot reduce. I would still reccomend you use the bands, but mainly you will just build muscle.(though having muscle DOES burn calories faster)

There are also other excercises you can do. Heavy cleaning like mopping, working outside and scrubbing provide suprisingly good workouts (oh yay! you can CLEAN, dont that just make you happy ^_^) Also, how old is your son? I have heard of a lot of moms who turn on music and dance while holding their child, or if he is old enough, them dancing with the mom.

As for the diet. YES it is imperative! I would reccomend you keep a food diary the first few weeks just to get used to it, and seeing how much you REALLY eat, vs how much you THINK you eat. Make sure you get 2-3 servings of fruits (a cup) and 3-5 servings of veggies. Eat lean meat (NOT FRIED) and switch to whole grains! avoid sugar and white bread. peanut butter is ok, if you get the natural kind. As for the fat burner, I wouldn;t reccomend it, those things are expensive and have bad side affects

GOOD LUCK!
