Im amazed by some of the inaccurate advice about this. Diazepam is a drug from the benzodiapine family, which used to be in the tranquilliser group. Diazepam is used for anxiety and agitation, it can be called a "downer" and is quite long acting (a few hours) it come in 2mg, 5mg and 10mg. It has addictive qualities so that if you take it regularly you will build up a dependence on it and have withdrawal symptoms if you dont take it. The problem is people find they need more to get them same effect and you have to wean slowly off it. It is also used rectally for people who are havine seizures as it can stop these. Prozac has been correctly described as an antidepressant, it does what it says on the tin, but be cautious because different ones work for different people and people also differ on the side effects. Antidepressants can take 4-6 weeks to work properly and it is possible to feel the side effects first. There are lots of different antidepressants so it depends on your previous response, your age and your doctors experience with some medications. I personally would take myself if I needed it escitalopram or citalopram, I have seen them used successfully with few side efeects after initial doses (some dizziness and nausea). But it is a very individual thing so remember different people will respond diffeferently. Also the stuff about exercise and depression is true, look at the department for health stuff and walking to health intitiative. Good luck.

Diazapam has extremely limited use: just about the only thing it is good for is for intoxication before a hospital operation, which you might bottle. It tends to make people drowsy (like a head turned into cotton wool) like they have got a cold. Makes working and functioning less efficient and quite useless, except for a waster!
Prozac seems to be a different. It is not a magic bullet. The person taking the drug seems to be OK but they can be a nuisance, even a menace to other people under the influence. Prozac is a strongly addictive drug. It has never cured anything or anybody.
Diazapan is less dangerous because it wear off by the following day. Prozac is a real problem because you immediately become an addict as it takes time to work and a long time to wear off.
I would not give a job to a Prozac user. They are too much trouble. I would not employ a person under the influence of Diazapan. It would consider it unsafe to the other employees.

It's all very well for people to say 'go for a walk, get out in the air', 'pull yourself together' - that's fine if one is feeling a little bit down in the dumps; and someone who has suffered real depression would know how damaging glib comments like that can be. If a person is clinically depressed due to a chemical imbalance in the brain, then medication can be the answer and can be very effective. Diazepam however is very addictive and is not an antidepressant. Prozac is an anti depressant and for some people highly effective. A combination of counselling and drug therapy is usually the way to go for true clinical depression, though it is vital that this is diagnosed by a medic who knows what they are doing! Don't suffer in silence and ignore those who stigmatize.

Prozac, Diazepan will only make you sleepy, however I
think this and all other answers should be read but not
taken as fact since your symptoms may be self induced.
Only a qualified Doctor can prescribe these drugs since,
apart from the correct medication, remember that you
also need to know the correct dosage. Self medication
never is wise.

Depression is a difficult thing to deal with and there is no ONE medicine that can help. I have tried them all and at the moment I would have to say that when you are really feeling down, then it is ok take diazapam, but not long term. Prozac is an anti depressant and there are so many to choose from that it is a case of trial and error. Help from your doctor or going to see a psyciatrist- councellor etc will help send you in the right direction. Don't despair, help is out there. Good luck.

Why do you want depression?????
Okay, sorry - I do know what you are saying - and you have had plenty of good and not so good answers.
For goodness sake, don't take either of them - or any other drug for that matter. Friends and long walks can help. Animals are great for improving well-being and healthy foods are known to help.
Are you really feeling depressed or just a little bit down? It's common at this time of year because we all expect too much from Christmas. It is also common at this time of year because of the lack of daylight hours.
Look forward to the spring and the sun in your face. Remember, now that we have passed the winter solstice we are gaining two minutes of daylight at each end of every day - that is pretty well a quarter of an hour morning and night!
Don't look for your cure in a bottle - look for it in the sunlight and the wind on your face - in other words, enjoy the simple things in life.

Diazapam is anti anxiety pill. You tend to take it as a one off, rather than as regular medication.
Prozac is the anti-depressant.
I've tried a few of the big name anti-depressats, Prozac was the best one for me as I didn't suffer any side effects from it.

Diazapam is Valium I believe, now the Prozac on the other hand is a anti-depressant(one of many)...example: Zoloft, Wellbutrin. Doctors have a choice of meds to offer you.

Hi - definitely go to your doctor first - don't buy anything off the internet. Different people require different drugs. Counselling is great too, as it helps you get in touch with your feelings again, which may be numbed with depression. Can't believe the number of people going on about how you shouldn't take medication. When a person is severely depressed, they can actually save your life (re suicide). Please don't make the mistake of generalising - every case is different. Your GP will help and also check out the MIND website. It has lots of useful information. Take care.
