Yeah, I'm tired of dishing out my hard earned money to pay for fake claims. There are people out there who deserve those benefits, like my grandparents. Whom have served this country and paid into the system for 60 plus years. They are now in their late 80's and still work to cover their medical costs.
I believe we need to revise this system.

Sounds like he has agoraphobia (which is a fear of leaving the house). I know a 19 yr old boy who witnessed a murder and has this issue. It is a serious disease to him and is very disruptive to his life. I can see why this kid can't work due to his fear of leaving the house.

Sounds like this guy you are talking about has issues we are not aware of. Generally the "phobias" come from somewhere. This guy sounds weird.

Edit add: On the topic of Social Secuirty (another answer)... Between all the widows and children from 9/11 and now Iraq, I don't think social security will last another 10 years. The average widow with 2 children receives almost $1300 a month in social security while the average disability check is half that. Besides... 46% of "your money" is going to the defense budget while only 13% goes to social welfare programs. Just a piece of food for thought.

For the record, drug addicts and heavy alcoholics are not eligible for social security unless it can be proven that the mental illness was severe and dibilitating before the substance abuse began (which is hard to do). You have to have had significant, long standing symptoms to get approved. It is a complicated and generally lengthy process and most people who are on it need to be on it. It's barely enough money to get by on.

Welfare is even more difficult to deal with and be on. And they REALLY do not give a person enough money to even survive. Having been through the hellish system because a disability made it necessary, despite all of my protests, I know how it works. I can not imagine ANYONE going through the bull$hit you are put through when you apply for and are on public assistance if they have any other options. It is not a free ride and anyone who thinks it is has never had to rely on it. The system sucks. They want you to get on your feet but don't actually help you do that, instead you get stuck in a miserable catch-22. They actually make it nearly impossible to get on your feet because the way they set things up
.
I've read that 1% (Yes, ONE percent) of taxes goes towards welfare.

I understand where you're coming from, but you obviously don't know much about mental health or phobias.
A phobia develops out of an extreme anxiety disorder (and these are very real; I have acute anxiety, and it sucks big time.) Different people's anxiety manifests in different ways. Phobic people's minds choose something (not consciously)- be it spiders, snakes, feathers, whatever - to focus on, something specific to be anxious about instead of free-floating anxiety, which is horribly wearing on the mind and body.
They're not actually afraid of whatever they've become phobic about - they're afraid of losing control, and their phobic focus is their chosen trigger.
Fear of losing control can also trigger panic attacks (which is the form my anxiety takes most often), and other "strange" behaviours.
So while this guy's phobia and subsequent problems may seem stupid, they have a genuine cause, and they can be treated very successfully.

I agree with you because these are the kinds of reasons the social security program is going (went) under... the program was designed for retired workers and their widows and dependent children. NOT for the people who the Americans With Disabilities Act claim worthy...ie...drug addicts, alcoholics etc... I guess it's a fine line there are many deserving disabled Americans out there who collect Social Security who need it and who are truly disabled... urgh...I'm on a tangent... I just think Social Security should only be given to those who paid into it.

A. I give MUCH more for the defense of this nation besides JUST my taxes and am proud of it!
B. Social Security is completely separate from the annual budget.
C. There are many more widows and dependent children who receive Social Security than just those who are killed in the line of duty or were killed in 9/11.

Whatever your political view... social security was designed for a specific purpose...NOT what is being used for today.

Sounds like he found himself a free ride, and a government dumb enough to pay for it.
Hobophobia ... LMAO
