Athiest that are pro life would seem odd but I'm sure they have a reason for believeing that way. I am athiest and am pro choice. I hope you find the answer to your question. The reason it may be hard is that science is analytical and not based on a bias of out side sources and athiest have more hold on sciences and we know that there are good reasons for pro choice that have nothing to do with quoting a ficticious book. Hope his answer helps you anyways !!!!

This belief probably comes from a lot of media. Not all atheists are "liberals" nor are they exactly pro-choice.

Most people, if they were to answer honestly, would say that they are pro-life AND pro-choice.

Abortion as a means of birth control is wrong. Period. However, there are certain cases where a pregnancy may need to be terminated due to the risks and dangers posed to the expectant mother.

In the end, though, it's not my place, your place or anybody's place to tell a person what to do with their body if they are of sound mind. It's up to the expectant mother to decide. Trying to control other people is just wrong.

There are pro-life Atheists. It the religious pro-lifers were smart they would let them join their movement. There is a group called Atheists for life and they are very much against abortion.

I'm sure there are. The reason that you tend to find most pro-lifers are fundamentalist christians however is that they are strongly conservative in nature, thinking that their will should rule over everybody even of different belief systems. Thus, you end up with attempting to prohibit something because you don't believe in it. Most atheists don't dare to presume their will counts for anything more than anyone else's.

I am an atheist and am pro life. I do not believe that women have the right to kill their unborn baby because it "appeared" at an inconvenient time in their life. Religious beliefs and pro-life are not synonymous.

Yes there are and I know one personally. But there are far more atheists out there than they let on, since there is the legitimate fear of ostracism from those in the community that are non-atheists. When was the last time a candidate for public office declared or admitted to being an atheist? Most are in the closet.

That is a pretty good question. I think that abortion is not something to be taken lightly. Suppose a woman does not want a kid, and the man does, it happens. Suppose a man does not want the child, he is helpless to force the issue. So there is a lot of responsibilty. But if you listen to abortion debates you will see that one side is arguing conception and when life begins, the other side is arguing about rights to their OWN person. It is an impasse because they are not arguing the same thing. Sahara, I know that you are subtle enough to recognize that nuance.

I'm pro-life, and I've been an atheist for about ten years. In talking with other atheists, I know that I'm SERIOUSLY in the minority in my views on the issue, but I strongly believe that human life is the most valuable thing in the universe and should be preserved and fostered whenever possible.

Not necessarily. Even before I became a serious Catholic five years ago, I was still pro-life. I always have been pro-life.

One does not need to be "religious" to see the obvious -- that unborn babies are human beings, and taking their lives in their mothers' wombs is murder.

Well, I wouldn't say I'm an Atheist, I believe in God, I just don't believe in religion. I'm for a woman's right to choose but personally I think it's wrong. Besides, making babies is fun.
