Intercity is the main bus service in New Zealand, but Northliner is supposed to be a good service. I think I used Intercity because I didn't know there was a cheaper service. The journey took about 4 hours from what I remember (this was almost 3 years ago).

Try Nakedbus.com for real cheap bus fares otherwise look up Intercity, the most commonly used bus service throughout NZ, their website should have a destination timetable.

try the northliner bus.. go down to the viaduct and it loads down there
