I believe that we should consider doing so when and where it may be economically feasible relative to other energy sources. Deep wells may be very expensive and must bring up a great constant supply of heat to repay the costs within a reasonable period. Some geologists believe that the hot spot under Yellowstone park could result in a new massive volcano some time in the future. Perhaps that could be prevented by using up much of the heat there by mining. The mines likely could be quite shallow. However, that might ruin many if not all of the beautiful thermal geysers and pools there.

Yes as it is environmentally friendly but suitable places for harnessing are far from urban areas. But the construction of the facility will take a few years and cost a hefty sum.

Of course, like with so many "brilliant ideas", real action is taken by those that have a real urgent need. The Swiss have absolutely no own natural resources but their beautiful landscape.
