Check out "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" by Tom Venuto. It is a huge compendium of everything you wanted to know about losing fat without losing (rather gaining) lean muscle mass. Tom's advice is big on exercise and big on eating - eating the right foods at the right time to boost metabolism. It's an E-book and you do have to pay for it, but IMO it's worth every penny.

You have already been given many good suggestions but the determining factor will be consistency in diet and exercise. You will not make your goals if you cheat in your eating and skip workouts. You want to lose weight to feel and perform better. Twice a day exercise may take too much from your life, try being consistent with 1 a day with med high intensity. You need to learn to train in your target heart range and keep it there for an extended period of time. A combination of aerobic and anaerobic activity will likely be best for you, don't neglect to do some strength training. Spend some time in the library thumbing through the exercise books to acquaint your self with the world of exercise. Also, training under the watchful eye of someone who is knowledgeable is important in order to learn correct bio-mechanics. Good luck.

sorry, this is a short answer, but even for a woman, lifting weights is very important for weight loss. Of course you need cardio exercise, but a lot of women don't lift weights because they think it's going to make them look like the bobdybuilder girls you see on TV and in magazines.
That is a myth. Those girls are taking male hormones in order to look like that.
The average girl who works out with weights will get great results and look very nice after 2-3 months of consistent weight training.
