Its true. The only way that it can be said to be done in Jesus' name is if he called for it or commanded it. But if He not only did not expressly call for it but actually forbade it, how can anyone say that what they do against his will, they did for him or in his name?
It was then against his will and against his name.
Really they can only have done it in their own name. They kill in the name of their greed or in the name of their country.
Jesus himself said"Why do you call me Lord when you do not do the things that I say" and another scripture says "because of you my name is blasphemed all day long"
But some people just like to believe an evil report instead of a good report, because it resonates in their heart, and suits their purpose.
What do some protesters of the war say? Not in my name, in other words this is not my will.

Perhaps the answer to your question is, in the name of the Catholic Church, or politics, or power,or state. That the culture was Chrsitianised is true but Christian art does not make Christians. If in every other way the Catholic church was disobeying Christ, why is that hard to understand. They were really secualr men in priestly robes that is all. The Crusades were not done in Christs name either but in the name of their own sense of honor as Christians(and that in a secondary sense) who were being threatened and humiliated by encroaching Muslims imperialists. In fact the Crusades were more of a straight up fight for very survival not necessarily as Christians but as a people period.

Green lantern you have no clue what you are talking about. You really need to check your bible. You took two sciprtures out of their proper context in order to prove something that is unproveable from the NT.
That is totally hopelss, if you can even pretende that you think that the NT or Jesus supports what you are trying to say he does by those verses, you are not just mildly deceived but you are very dangerously deluded. I don't know how anyone can be so off as you.

Concerning the crusades, that was a response to Muslim aggression and that is known by everybody who has any decent education. The crusades were a option that had to be arrived at, they had no option but to think the Muslims of that day, who were expansionists, had to be killed, it was for those europeans a choicew between life or death, reality. Not purely arbitrary. It was a natural and human reaction, regardless of wether it is ugly. Ugly, hard ,undesirable, are not criteria for determing wether something is right.

Some people may have claimed to do this -- but they were, to put it mildly, misguided.

But many, many people have BEEN KILLED because of their faith in Christ over history -- and continue to be, in fact.

Matthew 10:34
Jesus said that he come for sword, not for peace.

2.Jesus ordered the disciple to sell their coats to buy swords.
3.He and his companion was engaged in mortal combat with their enemies, the Pharisee when one of the priest slave had his ear cut by sword.
4.The word "sword"appeared over 200 times in the Bible.

Check the Bible before you make your statements.

Jesus doesn't ask people to kill in his name. Jesus is all about peace, love, and forgiveness. Satan is very deceiving and will use anything to get people to sin, even telling people to kill in Jesus' name. Thats how he turns people against God.

interesting statement however i belive some people do kill in gods name , for example the crusades , in todays culture they say the devil made them do it , or in david berkiwitz { the son of sam } case - a dog . i feel people say they kill because of someone or something to justify what they have just done in their minds and others

People killed (and maybe still kill) in the name of Jesus, because they THINK it's the right thing to do, just like Paul thought it is the right thing to put Christians in prison. Many times we do things and we really think it's God's will, when in fact, it is not by far...

if you look at the history..... there are many killings in the name of Jesus or religion..... we can look at it in a perpective that sometimes favorable for us.... but for me... killing human in the name of religion is not really good...... it might be blasphemy.... but i would rather believe that life is far greater than religion itself...........
