I have 5 cats in a 1150 sq ft home. I use Fresh Step Cedar. It's a clumping litter. I have 3 litter boxes and clean them every two or three days -there is NO odor. Another I use sometimes is Ever Clean Cedar. They are both Clorox products, and I'm not exactly sure what the difference is. Ever Clean does clump a little differently, or so it seems, but both are great at odor control. Let's face it, odor control is a BIG consideration in choosing a litter.

Hi there..although there are many good brands, it depends on what is important to you personally. If you are looking for something practical most of the clumpable brands are inexpensive and easily found at most stores such as Arm & Hammer, Tidy Cats, Scoop Away, etc. For more environmentally friendly products there's Yesterday's News http://www.yesterdaysnews.com/GetPage.aspx?D=8650992&T=3673716, Feline Pine http://www.naturesearth.com/ or Cedarifichttp://www.amazon.com/Cedarific-Litter-Natural-Cedar-7-5-lb/dp/B000197ZOE/sr=1-4/qid=1167126215/ref=sr_1_4/102-6695445-7258535?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden, SwheatScoop http://www.swheatscoop.com/, World's Best Cat Litterhttp://www.worldsbestcatlitter.com/. The environmentally friendly litters are the flushable litter but a little more expensive yet just as effective as the inexpensive brands at keeping odours under control.

The cheapest and the best and most ecologically sound is --- chicken pellets. As in the feed. Or rabbit.guinea pig lucern pellets. They absorb moisture and odours and can be flushed down the toilet or put out into the garden. Both can be bought at your local feed store in big bags if you choose, or smaller boxes.
The clumping litters can be dangerous if ingested. They swell by 60% and if your cat licks its feet after being in the litter (to remove bits stuck to its paws), there is a good chance it will swallow the litter and its stomach/intestines may become impacted.

Look into a CatGenie. It eliminates the need for litter. I just got one about a month ago after waiting 6 weeks for it. Google it.
