Plenty of water - drink water water water ... and have some pain relief.

It sort of depends on how big the stone is and where it is in your renal tract.

Big stones up in kidney - see your doctor - you'll get Lithotripsy - focused ultrasound waves to bombard the stone and break it into small pieces.

Little stones up in the kidney - no action usually taken, but be aware of them for when they come down lower in the renal tract.

Big stones in the ureter - stones >6mm often get stuck in the ureter. You'll need to see your doctor who will be able to sort out a solution out of the following:
- push it back into the kidney and then have Lithotripsy
- snare it and drag it out
- use a ureteroscopic lithotripter - a little jackhammer thing that goes up the ureter that can batter the stone into smaller fragments
- VUJ sphincterotomy - when the stone is stuck just as it goes to enter the bladder, a widening of the inlet to the bladder might be all that is needed to get it in there

Small stones in the ureter - drink water - have pain relief. Try and pass the stone. Also strain your urine. If you can catch the stone take it to your doctor to have stone analysis. Certain forms of stones can be amenable to medication if they are recurrent problems.

Once the kidney stone gets into the bladder, usually it is easily passed out through the urethra and no further action needs to be taken (except to strain the urine and catch the stone).

Cranberry Juice and water. You need to pass it. Go operate a chainsaw or something. Everytime I did it, it shook my stone enough so I could pass it.

The next door neighbor's son just went through that. A nurse (not at a hospital, just another neighbor) said "Drink about 4 beer". He did, it passed. Saved the cost of laser or other fix-it surgury, and he likes the odd beer anyway lol. Good luck to you, and please remember, I am NOT a doctor.

For sure, Cranberry juice and ask a doctor. You need to stay away from certain foods and a doctor can tell you which ones.
