Did the Iraq war have any logic? Bush in my book has a diminished thought capacity focusing only on power, not the cost of gaining it at the expense of families etc.

One million American soldiers died from the begining of The Civil War to the end of WWII. In WWII, the U.S. was losing an average of 2,000 soldiers a day. Over 3,000 British children drown each year. The 10,000 Chinese coal miners die each year. If you think the Iraq snipers are good, 100,000 Americans die each year from medical mistakes.
It took 9 years to rebuild half of Germany and all of Japan after 3 years of fighting. The U.S. hasn't even been in Iraq for 4 years.
I do think the U.S. government had four goals in mind.
1. To create a Republic. It did that.
2. To build about 3,000 infrastructure projects and 85% of that has been built as of August 2006.
3. To build the Iraqi police and military. The Iraqi prsident said that should be accomplished in June of 2007.
4. To hand back land to the Iraqi government. So far 3 of 18 providences (states) have been handed back to the Iraqi government. I think as the police and soldeirs get better trained, the land will be handed back at a much faster pace.

There never was a logic. 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq. 9/11 was most likely caused by Osama Bin Laden, and he has nothing to do with Saddam Hussein or Iraq. But you're right about the amount of Americans being killed, and more are dying today. Impeach Bush!

To me, it doesn't. IT never was to begin with. We went into the Iraqi war under rushed, false pretenses. The goal of going overseas in the beginning was to find AL Queda and the Taliban (remember them?) and oust them out.
We Americans were duped into the Iraqi war. There was no link between Al Queda or the Taliban in Iraq. In fact, althought Saddam Hussein being the evil and sadistic dictator he was, he did expel any Al Queda and Taliban power in Iraq, regardless of his own vice or terror inflicted on Iraqies.
Somehow the Iraqi war turned into a mission to liberate the Iraqi people instead of finding the Taliban or Al Queda (funny how America is concerned about this now and not in the first war with Iraq under Bush Sr.).
Now, I'm happy that the Iraqies have a path to a better future, but that is not the original intent of sending our soldiers overseas. In fact, in a fair election, Iraqies want to elect an Islamic government which American forces have a problem with. If anything, we have opened up a gateway for Taliban insurgents to spread influence in Iraq.
I mean no disrespect to my friends and collegues serving as soldiers overseas, but fighting in the Iraqi war is a lost cause. Our government has no real focus on being in Iraq, have clinged on to an idea that sounds noble, and has specifically fixed the media on not to harp on the issue whether this is a war over liberation or oil. The president has done more injustice to the soldiers by not providing them with proper armor, a valid reason to fight, or a solid plan for action.
It also seems that America has forgotten that they have soldiers overseas. It seems to be a status quo the current cabinet has established. No companies advertise "we support our troops" simply because we as a nation do not.
I know some may read my post and say, "This is a left wing liberal spouting his nonsense on the web." I was for the war in Afghanistan; I believe we went there on the right notion. I don't believe that we should be in Iraq because it never made any logical sense from the beginning. We did not go to the Middle East to liberate Iraq, we went there to avenge September 11th by finding and destroying the Taliban and Al Queda. As I wrote before, we do not support our troops by lobbying for better protection than what they have now, showing what happens on the warfield (Vietnam era had way better coverage with not even an eigth of the technology), or even having companies recognize we are at war.
If a person wants to support the troops, save them from the president and his cabinet. Save them from a war for oil. Lets say the Iraqi war continues, more lives will be lost. It will be lost under not finding Osama bin Laden, Al Queda, or the Taliban. The war reaches it's climax when bin Laden is found, and I don't think the cabinet wants that. I find it hard to believe we can find Hussein in a hole yet not be able to find bin Laden in a couple of years, especially when one keeps releasing videos.
What is the point of having this "one month" war then? To liberate the Iraqi people? That's not my idea of avenging September 11th.

I feel for the Americans who gave their lives, and appreciate their sacrifice. But the logic of war cannot (for a civilized state) be judged by the lives lost, but by the outcome... Have we accomplished our goal? (Whatever it was) Or made the situation worse?
And by situation, I mean the living condition of the Iraqi people, & the level of Anti-West / Anti US extremism in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Pakistan, & throughout the world.

America is in Iraq to topple the radical Islamic threat. All the BS about oil, revenge against Saddam is just that...BS. Will the west benefit as far as oil goes? Absolutely. But as an American, and a realist, that's fine with me. And FYI...many thousands more die everyday due to automobile accidents. Want to ban cars?

The American Civil War was viewed as criminally stupid, an unnecessary bloodletting brought on by arrogant extremists and blundering politicians. 620,000 died. 620,000 died. 620,000 died.
War is the inevitable outcome when logic fails.
