That all depends on your BMI. If you have a layer of fat that is very thick covering those muscles and you do not do anything to 'lose' it, you will not see any results other than an overall toning of the fat and a thickening of your pooch. You can have rock solid abs under fat and no one will ever know.

Star is correct... you can shape up the abs all you want, but if you still have a fat layer above, you won't see them.

If the results you are looking for are to lose fat/ inches off your waist... you need to have a good diet and do cardio training to burn off your body's fat stores. There is no "spot reduction" for fat... fat is burned from everywhere in the body, not just one place. That's why people get discouraged when trying to lose weight/fat and are only looking at their waist for results. The places you have the most fat are the places that it will take the longest for you to see results (as opposed to places with less fat... arms, face, etc).

And if you are looking for well defined abs ala fitness model abs, your body fat % has to be a lot lower than what is average (yes, average means normal). You can be at a fitness or athlete level of body fat and still not have all the definition. It takes a lot of work on your diet and food choices, and getting the cardio in.

do them every other day so you don't tear down muscle tissue instead of build. I would said if you are consistent and you don't really have any fat to lose around the stomach area, you should see results in about 2-4 weeks maybe sooner, depends on how familiar your muscles are on building new tissue.

Oh yeah eat lots of protein

OMG! you are just like my BF! That's what he's been doing for 3.5 months. he was average, but he wanted to tone up so did exactly 1025 sit ups a day! lol-wierd. anyway, to answer your question, you've gotta be very persistent. If you have a little meat on ya, your stomach muscles will form in about 2 weeks, but you won't be able to see it under the fat. To pass them through the fat, it usually takes about 1.5 months. but you've gotta be persistent and do not give up!
good luck

you won't get much results, Situps don't do much but strain the back.

Go to this site if you want results, and fast. I lost 2lbs per workout, and felt awesome, after only 5 days i was at my desired weight and i stopped, I havn't done it since, and havn't gained it back... But i'm considering doing the program again, because of how good it makes me feel throughout the day.

3 weeks if you continue this routine, results can be seen much quicker if you run 30 mins a day and let your muscles rest every second day.
