You know the thing in hospitals that displays the patients heartbeat with a green line? What's it called and which part of the body is it connected to?

Electrocardiograph (ECG) or (EKG)-same thing
there are electrodes attached to the trunk, one to the left below the heart the other on the right above it.

It takes a reading of the electrical impulses of the heart.

It's called an Electrocardiograph or ECG. Three electrodes (small round stickers) are attached to the body one on the top right of the chest, one top left, and one on the left side (pretty much where the bottom rib is). These electrodes measure electrical impulses as they pass through the heart muscle. The different up/down lines on the screen relate to different areas of the heart contracting and relaxing. By looking at the lines you can figure out if the heart is working properly. Or if it's not, why not.
