It generally occurs around June 21st and is the longest day of the year. It is also the first official day of summer. After that the days start to get shorter in preparation for winter. Just like Dec. 21st is the first day of Winter and the shortest day of the year. Now the days will start to get longer.

It is the longest day as it is the time where a hemisphere of the earth will be at its closest to the sun for the entire year. It is to do with the tilting of the earth, which is the way we get our seasons.

the ancients considered it a very secred time of year. i think it should still be considered secred cause theres alota meaning behind such an event, it only happens once in 365 days.
