How far do you agree?

I agree almost entirely. Self-discipline is certainly the single most important factor in any sort of success, although a certain natural ability is also important.

Maybe that's why I'm not a success by very many standards. There are so few areas in which I am willing to consistently exercise self-discipline. But it's OK; I'm retired.

I don't fully agree, because there are other factors that are important to success in different areas. For instance, to be successful as a musician, you not only need self-discipline, you also need a lot of natural talent. To be successful as a businessman, self-discipline alone is not enough, you need to be strategic (I suppose this comes with IQ, training, and experience).

Here is one small example of other important factors contributing to success. I think number 3 and 5 below can be achieved by someone with a lot of self-discipline.

I do agree with this statement but I think that there must also have the element of Lady Luck at the same time. With a good self discipline, we can do a lot of things and overcome the diffculties that we face in our daily life. However some of the diffculties, if without lady luck we may not be able to overcome it and achieve our goals.
Even if lady Luck is present but we don't have the self disclipine, we can't achieve much thing as we depend on Lady luck. So in order to be sucessful both element must be present.

If you don't have control over yourself then how can you possibly control your future and make the right decisions to be successful?
Also, most success stories are founded on a lot of hard work which only comes from self-discipline.

self-discipline can bring results of success and faliure. self discipline is nothing but strong determination so to speak. this self-discpline can be shown by not eating something u know is unhealthy but really tastes good, or training your mind instead of following its normal pattern of reaction, to intsead breed happiness, compassion or any quality that brings peacefulness. this type of discpline will bring results of extreme benefit to you and others. however someone who has self-discipline and trains in something like, weapons training, is only training for harm. before the self defense thing gets thrown up about that comment i would like to say a stronger person would show non-reaction and compassion for and attacker and only look to inflict minimal harm if unavoidable.

i guess the answer is that success comes from what you class as your goal and if you achieved it. self-discipline dramaticly increases your chance of attaining it and is a immeasurable virtue to have.

i agree with this statement 100%. without self discipline its very difficult(if not impossible) to achieve your goals.
i give you example of on line education. if student is not self disciplined then he/she can't get benefit from it. same is case of home schooling, one must be self disciplined and self motivated to do it.
actually in all spheres of life when you take responsibility then you can try your best.
