Why wear anything else then. Gold is a better investment for your jewelry dollar.

I experience the same exact thing. I always said I just had expensive skin. I was informed that the skin reaction is due to there being a higher nickel metal content in the metal. Less gold, more nickle will cause that reaction...thus I need to wear higher quality gold. It usually only takes a few hours, most a day, then the tiny red bumps appear, begins itching like crazy, becomes more red, and I have to remove the jewelry and put cream on irritation till it disappears, which is usually a day or so. Frustrating. It's been suggested that I paint a coat of clear nail polish on the metal (i.e. metal clasp on a watch) etc. I've never done this, so don't know if that would help.

Unfortunately, it sounds as if you are allergic to other metals than true gold. The one way that I know that would probably make a difference is the type of metal the jewelry is made of. You make want to try surgical steel posts for earrings. You can buy specific jewelry that is made for sensitive skin. If the rash is itchy or hangs around remove the jewelry, cleanse and dry the area. Apply a cortisone cream. You can buy it without a prescription. I would not use the ointment, they are messy and feel greasy.

That is not too uncommon. I know someone who will get a rash with a necklace under 18K gold. It is a personal reaction and I believe there is nothing you can do except to stick with the good stuff.
Whoever gave a thumbs down to this question before I submited this answer, you are one ignorant P.O.S.
Edit: I like the way Jet (comment below this one) thinks...Leather is always good. I like the way she thinks.

i have similar problem...so do most of my family members
over the years however i have found that i can wear some titanium jewelery and Platinum...
no other metals though...not even surgical steel.. have to be careful even at the doctors/dentist office :/
forget the nail polish cover up...it doesn't last long could still break your skin out in a rash and never put nail polish on your earrings post!! it could flake off in your ear and cause an infection

Hello, you have an allergy to all the other metals. You'd better stop wearing everything except made of gold unless your allergy would progress and another bad thing would appear. I have the same thing. They say it is all because of bad environment and various bad impact on us.

No, you are having an allergic reaction....stick with the gold, it will take some time, but eventually you will have enough to wear jewelry everyday. My mom has this same problem..............

You're probably allergic to some of the finishes used on other metals. Try asking your jeweller about it, or use surgical steel if you don't want gold.
Good luck!

sometimes taking antihistamines help but the only other way to avoid it is to only wear gold. you can try to keep the jewelry clean but if your skin is sensitive to it there isnt much you can do.
