The word shave means to cut too short or making your cat bald. It is not good to make it too short because it is winter season now and it will be too cold for your cat (I don't know however if it is winter in your place). You can cut her hair and leave about 1 or 2 cm long in that way she will still feel comfortable because there's still haircoat left.
Long haired cats usually have hair cuts 2 times a year because as the hair grows, they become matted especially if the owner has no time to comb their hair. It is very uncomfortable for the cats to have matted hairs all around their bodies. Sometimes it hinders their movement, feces get caught at the entrance of the anus and the cat become so untidy.
So I would advice you that you can cut but just don't make it too short. Also, it would make your cat look nicer than a bald one. Just one word of caution when doing haircut: be very careful not to cut the skin accidentally as this is common, otherwise you would go to a vet for suturing.

Don't even think about it. You want a short hair cat buy it. Believe if shave your cat just for fun it'll hate you till the end of your days and don't be surprised if it'll attack you some day. A cat may be small, but very smart at the same time. You'll be a fool to become it's enemy

Don't shave your cat. If your cat have very long hair, then maybe you could cut it short. It would be vey fun to play with the cat if the cat is long haired. So think twice before you cut the hair.

Whether or not to have your cat shaved at all, I cannot say.
Whether or not YOU should do it - no. Apparently cat skin is quite loose and it would be very easy to inflict numerous nicks and cuts. I was planning on keeping Poppy's butt trimmed myself until I read up on the topic.
If you want your cat shaved, have it done by a professional.

Give a grooming salon a ring, they can make it look natural rather than DIY (ie bad). They will also be better at handling the cat therefore making it less likely the cat will get cut or nicked if it freaks out at the noise of a shaver.

If you want a bald cat buy a Sphinx, they just have fuzz like a peach! but need to be kept inside and are very expensive. why not go to a grooming parlour, that way if the cat hates it being done it wont be you it miss trust's from then on. Try bushing every day to keep coat nice.

dont shave the cat. get a really good cat brush and brush the fur a lot. that way you can get rid of the extra fur it was going to shed off anyway, and it wont be all over your house.

No ! If the cat suffers from fur balls these may be removed with carefull use of scissors. Grooming with a brush will prevent the formation of fur balls but on no account ever even think of shaving the poor creature.
