<>Most electric power is generated by the burning of coal or oil to boil water to make steam to turn turbine generators. Some is made by using the heat of decaying uranium in nuclear reactors to heat the water. Water and wind can also turn the turbines. The produced electricity is fed into high voltage electrical wires to travel long distances; the high voltage lines keep power loss at a minimum. As the electricity approaches its users, its voltage is reduced by transformers until it arrives at its final destination, residence or business, it is reduced to the voltage for the consumer by the transformers you see on or beside utility poles, From there wires bring it into the consumer's meter which records the usage for the utility company's billing, and then into the building.
