Seeing the answers from my previous question at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ag62WM90y7gNyvBIWvWyWdPsy6IX?qid=20061225002012AArINRb made me think. Almost every one of you said that you did not need proof to believe in Jesus and god. If this is true, why would you not believe in zeus? If you do not require proof, just faith in zeus, then why would you deny his existence and accept Jesus'? I am not trying to provoke anyone or to offend anyone, I truly want to know how people can think in such a way. I just do not understand how people can.

I would prefer only to hear from people who DO in fact believe that they do not need proof to believe in god. If you DO need proof to believe in god and do believe in god, than would you respond to me earlier question

Don't get caught up on the details. Zeus does not really matter, it could be ANY other deity. Jesus being a real person does not really matter, it is not that someone named jesus existed that matters, it is what that person supposedly did that matters, and what is the target of my question.

To simon, there WERE eyewitness accounts of zeus in his time, and people thought he was every bit as real as some peolpe think jesus was. The fact that i may agree a person named jesus did exist is a distraction, and of no importance, there is no REAL difference between the two.

What i am really getting at is why do you reject that zeus had super powers, threw lightning bolts, intereferd with peoples live, and such while you DO NOT reject that jesus had superpowers, conjured food and wine, interefered with peoples live and such?

Good God, do you have a chain of "Questions" going, or what?

Alright, let me try to Answer this one, too.

Zeus and Jesus are different, really. One is a mythical King of the Gods while the other was real live person, back then.

We have many eyewitness account of Jesus' Life and Death called the Testaments to prove that he truly existed, whereas we don't have any such support to Zeus.

Regarding the Question of "Do you need proof to believe in God?"; I'd most certainly say "Yes!" Why?

Because I want to know that I am not calling the wrong thing by the wrong name. It's as simple as that.

To have "Faith" of any kind, one needs a certain amount of Reality, don't you agree?

I don't "believe" in Santa Claus, but I sure as heck like the idea! It's a great thing for the kids!?

Nobody has been able to Answer positively about God's existence or inexistence. Yet, I believe there is some such Force there, somewhere. It communicates with me as my Conscience.

But then, I'm not the Expert in this matter.

I've merely got a M. Phil in Comparative Religion and know what a lot of Books say and that's nowhere close enough to take me where I need to go for that Answer!

All of our prophets had revelations from God, not Zeus. Roman ideaology was more ritualistic than actual belief/religion so that they could have a cetain structure to their society. When I see a painting I can logically deduce that there must've been a painter. When I see this vast universe I can logically deduce this is not the product of mother nature's coincidence; but rather the result of a higher, more intelligent being. I'm not Buddhist but the following quote really struck me; I think it logically sums up my belief in God, as a Muslim. To be a well-balanced person we need to tend to body, mind and soul (the most often neglected being soul, religion, God etc.) Peace and enjoy! :)

'Oh disciples, there is a non-born, a non-produced, [a] non-created, a non-formed, if there were not, oh disciples, a non-born, a non-produced, a non-created and a non-formed, there would be no issue for the born, the produced, the created, the formed.' ~Buddha~

I think there are different ways of defining what "proof" is. I could site examples of answered prayers, but a skeptic might say things would have turned out like they did even if I didn't pray. I could say I know in my heart that Jesus is real, but some might say that is just delusional. My point is this. Faith in Jesus is not blind acceptance without anything to back it up. If it were, my faith would have faded years ago. I have been a Christian for many years.

Here is something to consider. There were people in the early days of Christianity who were very much apposed to those crazy claims the followers of Jesus made about Him having risen from the dead. In order to squash this, all they had to do was produce His body. Why couldn't they do that? Also, there were several of His followers who were killed because of what they were saying. If it was a lie, why would they be willing to die for it?

"The greatest Story Ever Told" You need to watch it.
I believe we were all sent here with our free agency, meaning that we have the freedom to do right or wrong. I believe Jesus is the Son of God.

In the Old Testament they believed an eye for an eye.

In the New Testament is where Jesus came in. His teachings are to turn the other cheek. Also to love one another. In most Bibles all the works spoken by Jesus are written in red.

I believe he came to take our sins upon him self by going through the torture he was put through while hanging on the cross.

We can now ask for forgiveness for our sins. We can be cleansed for our sins by Baptism.

I have great faith that God and His Son Jesus exists.

I know by my faith that when I die I will enter into a place with God and my Savior Jesus The Christ and be united with my ancestors. My mother who died when I was eight and I want to see my father and grandparents.etc.

I have FAITH. Do you think there is anything wrong with having faith?

I'm sorry, but I have no answer about Zeus.

Not believing is Zeus is along the lines of not believing in a sky made out of cheese. Belief in Jesus has nothing to do with "blind" belief. You don't just say "ok, I'm going to believe in this."

Faith is more than that. There is proof that Jesus lived. Faith in Jesus means that you have heard the stories and you understand what he did. You believe that he was, in fact, the Son of God. There is no question of his existance. It is a question of is he who he claimed to be? Faith in Jesus is understanding that, yes, he was born to free man from sin. He lived a pure life so he could die on the cross and free us from sin. Just acknowledging you are a sinner and that you believe Jesus came to die for you is all you need to do to be a Christian and enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

So, for me, faith in Jesus just comes from understanding that he did live and believing that he died on the cross and rose again by the order of God. I don't need cold, hard proof that Jesus was God's Son. That would make it too easy. Faith is the hard part.

When you commit your heart and life to Christ and "walk" with Him, the "proof" comes in the "personal contact relationship" with Jesus, the Holy Spirit and Father God (the Triune Godhead). They actually manifest daily miracles in your life, audibly "speak" to you, "guide" you, "bless" you, miraculously "save" you from unexpected harm or danger... the list goes on and on. As a result, from these "tangible experiences", these become the actual "proof" beyond any reasonable doubt, and there is nothing NOT to understand. It's really all quite simple.

Believing in any other deity, i.e. Zeus, DOES NOT DO ANY OF THIS. Sorry, but it's true.

Well I am a believer and some times I fall from faith because there is no proof and wonder if He is there. But I have faith and believe!! But I think the reason why people who believe in Jesus with no proof, don't believe in others as in zues, because in the Bible it says there is no other God. If you talk to a person who believes in a different God, they will say the same thing about Jesus.

I believe that Jesus existed, and I do not believe that God exists. There is proof that Jesus, the man, existed. There is no proof for the existence of God, or that he was the son of anyone other than Mary and Joseph. In keeping with my view, I would not believe in Zeus either.

I believe in Zeus too. ;)

I suppose there is a God like that you know, who throws thunderbolts and stuff and has sex without being physically present with woman who sits in the rain. Totally believe that. ;)

There are some things in the world that are to be called stories. They are not real. I make a lot of them -- but I never believe in them.

As far as Jesus is concerned, He sounds like a historical figure to me -- I mean people have actually researched this fact. So He probably existed.

Other stuff about Him is just what someone said -- no one can prove it or disprove it. But I like the stuff they tell about Him -- sounds like a nice person.

Faith: Belief in things that are not seen. That is why a person's religion is called their faith. If you want to believe in Zeus, knock yourself out. But don't begrudge people who choose to believe otherwise. That works the other way around, too.
