It is sad. I think it is a fear that stems from our belief system beings so completely different than theirs. At least with other religions they share the belief in god, dogma, religion, and the importance of these things. With atheists, we think that they have got it so completely wrong. And the fact that logic and reason supports our side of the argument has GOT to make them uncomfortable.

For those who doubt that atheists are hated, there have been several recent studies attesting to the fact. One study of America showed that atheists were the least trusted of any group of people, beating out muslims, blacks, and homosexuals. The study also found that atheists were the most likely group that parents ban from marrying their children. As homosexuals are becoming more and more accepted as people in America, it seems the next target for the majority to hate are atheists.

One quote that bests sums it up is b George Bush Sr, when he was running for election. He said "I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens or patriots. This is one nation under god."

I asked this same question earlier tonight and I am a Christian lol

The only thing I can say is I consider there to be four groups

Athiests
Agnostics
Christians
"Hypocrites (Immature or Ignorant Christians)"

Hypocrites are the christians that SAY they are christians but REACT in a different way. Those that will tell people to "go to hell" or "your stupid Jesus hates you if you don't believe in him" . Unfortunately nowadays it does seem like most Christians fall into the "hypocrite" category and are most interested in expressing hate (which is easy) than "Love they Neighbor as Thyself" and teaching non-believers respectfully of their beliefs. Heck, "Hypocrites" can hardly get along with their own Christian brothers. I really think these people believe they can live and react however they want, just so they believe their is a Jesus, that nothing else matters. WRONG!!!!

Remember one thing, just because they say they are Christian, in no way means they really are.

I don't think that the majority of people do hate atheists. I think that some people do, and I've seen enough of it to get some insight as to why. Any time I have been attacked by a religious person, it has been because my lack of religious faith makes them uncomfortable. Certain questions are bound to spring to the Christian mind. "Does this atheist feel intellectually superior to me? Does this atheist think that I am stupid for believing what I do? How do I behave around this person? Can I say, 'Oh my God!'? What will offend this person? What about Christmas? Is this person bound for Hell? Will this person try to "convert" me to atheism? Is this person Satan in disguise, sent to lead me away from God?" And the most damning questions that the believer's subconscious can throw at them. "Is there anything to what this person is saying? What if...?"

I understand where the behavior comes from, and I won't argue with a Christian, but I will avoid one who is behaving disrespectfully toward me through no fault of my own, because I know that these are their hang-ups, and for them to deal with.

wonderful website of the communication that goes on between atheists and non-atheists, evolutionists and creationists, etc....

many people 'hate' on others that are not like them because of ignorance and fear. basically people are scared of what they don't understand, and more often, it is religious people who understand less about a lack of faith. this can be due to the 'all-encompassing' teachings of the bible and so many blind eyes turned to other sources of knowledge for christians and such (i'm not saying all, but rather, many), while atheists and agnostics study a lot of theology among many other subjects, and understand many angles of the whole issue. most of the time non-religious people do not argue on the simple basis of faith or belief, which doesn't allow much for the paranoia and fear of the universe that can occur otherwise.

Hey man how r u tonight? Anyways I just wanna make a point on something. I am Muslim and I would never say anything on you or your beliefs. Contrary to what alot of people are saying about Muslims on this site like we kill anyone who doesnt "believe" or whatever, the truth is that we follow a chapter in the Qu'ran that is only 6 sentences long but very simple to understand in only one phrase: To me my religion and to you your religion. Makes sense, huh? So I dont have anything against you and all I ask is that the other ppl here dont have anything against my religion. Anyways take care:D

I will not hate on non- believers but just pray for you and try to understand why you don't believe that theres a higher power that's bigger than all of us. Just look at everything around you, look at how the seasons change, how womencarry life... thank you GOD for all of the things we take for granted. We must humble ourselves before he humbles us and take those blessings away. One day you will feel his power, it is so glorious. It will have you crying and laughing at the same time. Thank you Jesus for you did not die in vain !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From my perspective it's not christians hating atheists or muslims hating christians or any one group hating any other group but simply human nature manifesting itself.

This is human nature in the nude. People trying to change one another result in battle. This is a sheer exercise in futility! You can not make one hair white nor another hair black ... ye of little faith !

I did not know people hated atheists. We're a pretty quiet bunch of people.... until someone tries to convert us.

believers hate the fact that we don't bow to their imaginary god. And because they are taught to hate us.

BTW - a recent usa poll showed atheists are the least trusted people alive. We rank even lower than the KKK
