I have a new laptop and when it starts to smell funny I am so afraid couse there might be some chemichals used in the manufacturing process. I know that the new things smell when you use them for the first couple of days but..I am also afraid to touch the plastic surface because there might be some toxins... I don't know.. I think I have something like a phobia. I realise that but then a though rushes through my head - "Well, it can be true. This thing can really contain something that can harm you". Sometimes I am afraid to eat some stuff.. again because of that chemicals. If something has a strange taste to me I just spit it out.. or throw up. This is not happening all the time but I can't live like a normal person. I know that chemicals are everywhere around us but I am so scared for my health. I am also scared from that lapop :). You'll say that I should consult a doctor or a psychiatrist but is there another way? I don't want to be afraid all the time from everything I touch/eat.

you have obsessive compulsive disorder. there is no point in being scared. being scared in itself is enough to cause you to die, go to a regular doctor he can give you brain chemical medications to help get you into some normal range. you are building all of this stuff out of nothing, you can get run over by a bus tomorrow so why worry about plastic and all that. gee, you have to just live.

I do believe that you have a form of OCD. No there is not another way, if you have OCD. I could not look into a newpaper at one time, cause i thought that the pictures in it would germ me, like pictures of chemicals you use on the lawn, or flowers, or even looking at a battery for a car I thought it had gremed me, go the acid on me somehow. I could not walk into a store and walk down the roll that the chemicals were in, or batteries, or anything that i say as being a danger to me, or germing me. So yes i would say you need to go see a therapist or someone that can help you with this. Cause this disorder can drive you crazy, believe me , i have been there many times. It is an irrational disorder too, and the thing is you know that, but you still have to wash or whatever to get the release of feeling clean or ik, or not germed. So yes go and see a therapist. I am going to tell you it will be a long hard journal, but there is light at the end of that dark scary tunnel. So don't wait, go and get help now, and start to feel better, and learn how to live with it, with out it taking over your life.

Well we do live in a world full of chemicals. Your computer may very well emit semi toxic fumes. I know non-stick kitchen pans do. But there's nothing we can do about it, so just eat healthy, exercise, and move on with your life. If you feel the need to see a psychiatrist that's fine, but you can work through this either way. Go organic with food and wash your fruit with produce wash before eating. That should eliminate your food fears. Good luck with this. I've had weird phobias too, you're not alone!

you could have OCD, but the best way to find out is research it. a good place to start is the DSM-IV-TR (go to the library and look in the reference section) . it is the manual of mental disorders. and it sounds like you have a phobia of chemicals. look under phobias in the DSM. aslo look under Paraniod Personality Disorder. once you have looked at thema nd researched them, go get help. go see a PSYCHOLOGIST, not a psychiatrist. if you need medicine, then the psychologist will refer you to a psychiatrist!! you may also what to look in the DSM under anxiety disorders. this is the best place to start, and dont think you have OCD just because the others said you have it, DO THE RESEARCH!!

Shut the puter off and go outside.
Every time something like this enters your head, say "f**k it and rub your face on the keyboard.
