400 is nice. The average, I think, is around 200 to 250. So 400 is like a B+.

Many people enjoy high counts such as 400+ however, they may feel soft for a while, they wear faster. Anything less than 200 though, feels cheap and not always as soft. try 250-300 for a medium feel. Sometimes companies put a softener in the fabric that washes out. Buy a pillow case or something small, take it home and wash it to see if you still like it after that. This also works for towels.

400 thread count sheets should be good. But don't be fooled into thinking that the higher the thread count the better it'll be - a friend of mine did have a bad experience. She bought sheets with 800 thread count and they were too stiff even after washing them -- they felt like curtains.

good. Feels very nice on the skin...worth the money I'd say. but you know they do make 1000 thread counts and above, too. Haven't splurged on that set yet... But I'm more than happy with my 400 set.

400 thread count is great...when you start getting higher, like 600tc, the sheets start feeling too slick for me, sort of like satin.

400 threads per inch is fairly high quality, which is good.

The higher the thread count is the better. I was informed by a friend who used to work at the linen department that when the thread count is higher, it is easier to iron the sheets after laundry. The creases are not so terrible.... Good Luck..
