Hi Detroit, Yes they do. What you want to do,is lift the tail up,and gentle put your thumb,and the finger by it, on each side of his anal, kind of press down on each side,and if it's full it will start follow out. I forgot,you must do this outside. The smell is very powderful.Keep pressing lightly until it quits following. Then wash your hands with warm water,and a good bar of soap. A Friend.

Yes, dogs have anal glands. It is best to have the vet show you how to release them the first time.

Yes, and if your dog is scooting its butt across the carpet they are probably impacted. It's a nasty business and worth paying the vet to do for you.
At least, let the vet do it this time (and also let them confirm that really is what the problem is). Have them show you what to do. Then if it comes up again you'll know how to do it properly--although it may also convince you it's best let them do it!
