"All that academic education is usless
if students never learn about God( I know that's what church is for, but it
should be taught in school too)."

I saw this quote and I do not want my son to believe most of what is recorded in the bible.

I have the belief that if you send a fundie to college, than you have no more fundie. I am not talking about a bible college, of course.

I met a bible college educated missionary with a degree. I asked him my favorite question for the fundies, "Did Gandhi go to heaven?". The answer should be, yes, of course. This man did not know who Gandhi was. How can a person go all the way through college and not know who Gandhi was?

You can't believe some of the Bible. It's is all or nothing. What does knowing who Gandhi have to do with Bible education. Gandhi was not a Christian (When asked why he did not embrace Christianity, Gandhi has said that he had studied the scriptures and was tremendously attracted. But eventually he came to the conclusion that there was nothing really special in the scriptures which he had not got in his own, and "to be a good Hindu also meant that I would be a good Christian. There was no need for me to join your creed to be a believer in the beauty of the teachings of Jesus or try to follow His example," he said.)
So he would not be taught at a Christian college. As for Gandhi going to heaven I don't believe I will see him in heaven as he had not accepted Jesus as his savior. "John 14:6-7Jesus said, ' am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him. You've even seen him!'"

You have to remember people really believe this stuff. If they believe there is an all powerful man sitting in the sky, judging whether or not people get an eternal heaven with never ending joy when they they die according to whether they believe the all powerful man is there...then they will think that is very important to 'educate' people. More important than having a education in this life to make a little fleeting happiness. Luckily, I don't think too many people in power have those kinds of views, so don't expect the US to dump education for bible studies. I think most politicians actually care about the U.S.'s continued existance.

Having been educated in a secular college myself, I certainly hope not. I'm not exactly sure what you're driving at, but I consider any college with the world Bible IN ITS NAME to be a fundie college.

There are plenty of great Christian schools that make fundamentalists cringe -- The University of Chicago (Catholic), Columbia (Evangelical, I think), Notre Dame (Catholic). There are religious schools too, like Naropa (Buddhist).

What's important here is that U of Chicago and Notre Dame are places of academia. Free inquiry, a core tenant higher education, is the opposite of dogma, so to me any dogmatic education is a contradiction. Bible colleges are churches dressed up as schools, nothing more.

i'm not really sure what your question is but if schools start to teach about god then i'm out. i think that schools are supposed to teach facts and believing god is a personal choice and opinion. education is going to prepare your son for his future and career and i don't know many jobs that involve believing in god

Thomas Edison would agree with you.

The great trouble is that the preachers get the children from six to seven years of age and then it is almost impossible to do anything with them. [Thomas Edison, quoted by Joseph Lewis from a personal conversation.

Not useless, just more logical.
Religion would taint the purity of science, mathematics. geograhy, history etc.
Why not teach science during church services?
