You have a right to control your health, and tell the smoker know, "Excuse me, I don't want to die due to 2nd hand smoke, and I know you do not want to contribute to that. Can you please not smoke in the car."

Yes! I hate it when any parent smokes with their kids in the car. It's very inconsiderate of their kids and bad for them. And everyone can tell when someone lives in a house with smokers. They always smell like smoke! Grosses people out! It's an expensive and harmful habit they need to quit!

I'm not sure about the risks you are concerned about, but I do have a suggestion. One open window isn't enough to circulate the air. In the future, have the driver open their window about 3 inches, and then open the rear passenger side down about 3 inches. The crossdraft will literally suck the smoke out of the car if the driver holds the cigarette within a few inches of the window. I know I didn't answer your question, but I hope this helps you someday!!
Blessings

i think that was a very good question to ask, i know alot of people who smoke while their kids are in the car, but i too think that if they want to harm their bodies, fine, but consider the fact that u arent the only one in the car and they might not be comfortable with u smoking, i for one have really bad allergies and cant stand people who will just blow smoke in my face, i seriously just blow out my nose when i smell smoke, it makes it look weird on my part, but i would rather have my
just to caution u, the people who are telling u its rumors and what u hear must be true kind of stuff, and the person who smoked and is STILL active, prolly are smokers themselves. just because u smoke today doesnt mean tomorrow u are gnna die, it has long term effects. i think u are a very wise young person. happy holidays

I don't think you experienced much harm from 5 cigarettes. I do worry about your friend and his family.
While the father should stop, you can not make it a stipulation to riding in their car. You can make a strong statement by letting them know the smoke bothers you so much you cannot ride with them. That is you taking care of your body.
I smoked for 30 years and it was really hard to quit. I did so I think almost anyone can. The best thing you can do to assure that you don't have to be around smokers is to encourage your friends not to start. You know the reasons.

Try not to go in the car with that person again...second hand smoke can kill, especially in a closed environment like a car. Don't be worried after just one exposure though...it takes a lot more than that. The worst is that your hair and clothes probably smelled.

How much do you thing it hurts you if you sit beside an open Fire or smell the smoke of a Fireplace? I don't think that the smoke of only 5 cigs. is going to hurt you.

You heard that, so it must be true? Sigh ....
Second hand smoke is no more harmful than the exhaust that car was pumping in. I hate people who take just as many health risks (unhealthy foods, aerosol products, driving cars that spew out harmful exhaust fumes) .. then feel free to jump up on a pedestal and lecture others. In the big people world, this is called hypocrisy.

I agree. I get really pissy and angry with people who smoke around my daughter. I've refused visits to my family, and sometimes won't see my friends if they can't not smoke while I'm there.
But I think you will be ok from 5 cigarettes.

tell him to stop
second hand smoke is worse for the person then the smoker itself...
second hand is worse cause when you breathe in the smoke, the smoke stays in the lungs, and for the smoker, the smoke goes in their lungs and then out.
if i where you, tell them to stop or try have your head out the window....
