My mum said she has a friend with Aspergers syndrome and says that i'm very similar to her. Does anyone know the symptoms so I can see if it does sound like me?

What is Asperger’s syndrome?

Asperger’s syndrome is a developmental disorder in which people have difficulties understanding how to interact socially.

People with Asperger's syndrome have some traits of autism, especially weak social skills and a preference for sameness and routine. However, unlike those with autism, children with Asperger's syndrome usually start to talk around 2 years of age (the age at which speech normally develops). They have normal to above-normal intelligence.

Both conditions belong to the group of disorders called pervasive developmental disorders. A recent study of a U.S. community of 76,000 found as many as 3 out of every 1,000 children were affected by Asperger's syndrome. 1

In addition, people with Aperger's tend to have a significantly better-than-average ability to focus on a single activity to the exclusion of virtually all other happenings around them, and sometimes have a tendency to get extremely involved in an activity (like a hobby), focusing on it, learning about it at a very deep level -- and then abruptly abandoning the activity after a few weeks, months, or years and beginning something entirely different. People with Asperger's often tend to be viewed as eccentric or odd.

As with many pervasive developmental disorders, the symptoms and characteristics may range from mild to severe.
