Can an felon buy rifle or shot gun or have it, as far as I know we felon cant have hand guns at all but can we still buy rifle or shot gun?? I was told I still can but I was not sure...

Many states allow you to own a gun after 5 years AND permission. Don't be caught without the proper paperwork being done.
Check your state laws first, as they may differ.
ON THE OTHERHAND, try bowhunting. I started over 10 years ago, and since then I've sold almost all my guns, except for my single shots. I do not find gun hunting as enjoyable anymore.

It varies by state. Here in TX a Felon cannot own or posses a gun within the first 5 years of being convicted as such, most felons are so bright that they go right back and get a gun, for "protection".
After the 5 yr window has expire he may have one.
I suggest you check your states penal code

You need to be more specific, as the laws within in each state vary. In Florida, the answer is no. Your facing another felony for the weapon and a felony for each round of ammunition you possess.
I would suggest taking up bow hunting. On a side note, it is possible to get a court order to reinstate some of your rights as a convicted felon. I know you can have your right to vote restored with this court order, i dont know if a court order can be petitioned to have your right to bear arms restored. Once again, this would depend on your state laws and the mind set of your local judicial district. Hope it helps.

There is a mechanism for non-violent felons to obtain a waiver, but chances are slim. Plan on bow-hunting.

A convicted felon CANNOT possess, or use any firearms. You may humt with a bow.
