While keeping your head level, apply constant pressure to both sides of the bridge of your nose for 10 minutes. If this isn't sufficient, apply an ice pack for 10-15 minutes.

Bloody noses are annoying to say the least, and can often seem to occur with no reason behind it. The sight of blood is often an indication of something wrong. However, they can be dealt with quickly and easily if you know what to do.
Steps
Pinch your nose hard just below the bridge. There is a vein just below the nose bone that is the culprit in 99% of bloody noses, pinching it puts pressure on it, arrests the bleeding and speeds the clotting process.
Find a bathroom (continue pinching). Now that you have slowed the bleeding by pinching, you should find a bathroom where you can clean up once the bleeding has stopped.
Keep applying pressure for at least 5 minutes at a time. Periodically stop pinching to check if it is still bleeding. If it is continue pinching. Don't check every 30 seconds, the key is constant pressure. This is also a good time to quickly wash blood of your hands and get a paper towel or TP to pinch with so that blood gets on the paper and not you hand.
Once bleeding has stopped, clean out your nose. Lightly blow your nose, this clears out any excess blood. You might try twirling the edge of a paper towel to use as a makeshift swab to help clean your nose. Be delicate, this should not start the bleeding again, if it does that is a sign that it wasn’t properly stopped in the first place.
Clean up everything else. Your hands, face, sink anything you dropped blood on needs to be cleaned.
If you have chap stick, moisturizer, neosporin on hand put a little of that in you nose to help healing and prevent it from bleeding again. If you are prone to bloody noses, it is a good idea to do this every morning to prevent bleeding, especially in dry weather.
Put an extra paper towel in your pocket just in case it starts to bleed again. If it doesn’t start for the next hour you should be in the clear.
Avoid doing anything to cause your nose to bleed. Don't blow your nose, pick, or bump it if at all possible. Nose bleeds can be caused by accidents, but are more commonly caused by dry conditions, causing the nasal membranes to dry out and crack. While we don't feel this, the end result is obvious.

When I go on an ambulance call for a nose bleed I know this is going to sound bad but what I do is take a tampon and cut it in half and place 1/2 of it in each side of the nose. As the tampon expands it ocludes the nasal passages and the blood clots. This is what trainers do for wrestlers also. Hope this helps.

I have a 6 year old daughter that has them quite often and they last 10 to 20 minutes. It's seems to just gush forever. I get a wet face cloth and put it on the bridge of her nose and pinch it lightly. I lay her back on pillows but keep her somewhat upright. I dont lay her to far down cos it goes to the back of her throat and she winds up swallowing blood. If she's crying it just worsens. But pinching in the bridge seems to work the best. Good luck.

Ok, what people are saying is half true half wrong. Pinching your bridge works. But when they said to tilt your head back, DONT! Tilting it back makes the blood drain into your stomach causing nasuea. Tilt your head foward a little or jsut keep it upright. Another thing to do is to take a finger and put in inside your mouth pressing your upper gum.

Lie down on a flat surface and apply some hair oil. This is the best way to prevent nose bleeding.

You simply apply pressure to the bridge of the nose pinching it close, and keeping your nose down, if you hold your head up blood can drip into your lungs causing suffocation

Use a small piece of cotton pad soaked with hydrogen peroxyde in your nostril, and have your head slightly bent to behind, lying on the bed, with elevated head or sitting on a chair.
