I love good desserts - these are my recommendations - and, yes, I've tried them all except one.
Payard on Lexington and 73rd Street

Bouley Bakery - 88 West Broadway
http://www.davidbouley.com/
Balthazar, 80 Spring Street (I didn't like the restaurant at all, but the bakery is wonderful)

Much less expensive, but wonderful - the BEST hot chocolate anywhere and excellent pastries
The City Bakery on West 18th Street just off Fifth Avenue
And finally, Bouchon Bakery in the Time-Warner Building at Columbus Circle. I haven't tried this one yet, but I've heard very good things about it.
I think Payard is my favorite, but I'm not uptown that often.

Venerios down in the east village. I don't know the exact address, but I think it's on 8th st and 2nd ave or in that neighborhood. All their stuff is made fresh every day and the deserts are absolutely yummy. They do have a little cafe area if you want to eat there. I don't know if they serve regular food or not. I've only ever gone for their desserts

http://www.borgoanticony.com/ very charming and comfortable
http://www.neronyc.com/media/nero.html... very nice easy atmosphere, great food
those two are really good restaurants for as they have a casual but elegant nice atmosphere and aren't overly pretentious or uncomfortable at all. Nice staff either place.
Best Bakeries: Try
Columbus Bakery
957 First Ave., Sutton Place (betw. 52nd & 53rd Sts.) and
474 Columbus Ave., Upper West Side (betw. 82nd & 83rd Sts.)
