A few days ago at a family party, I chatted with a distance relative of mine who revealed in her drunken stupor an incident that occurred while we were growing up. The unfortunate part is as serious as this incident is I do not recall it at all, maybe I was too young; she is several years older than me. Now that we are grown up, this particular relative with a guilty conscience wants to be forgiven and establish a closer relationship. I am upset and confused and, not sure how to handle the situation. I can forgive but, I have NO interest in a relationship with this person anymore. I want to remember the situation, but cannot. Has anyone ever tried hypnosis? If so, does it work? If anyone knows of a good professional that performs hypnosis in the New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania please recommend one.

If you didn't remember it, you probably don't want to. Let it go. Forgive, but don't trust. The person may want to relieve a guilty conscience, but that is for them.... not for you.

If it really bothers you so much, see a professional. They are in the Yellow Pages, or you might ask your own physician for a referral.

I know that I witnessed something terrible when my father was drunk and brutally beat my mother in front of me at the age of 7. I remember everything that led up to it clearly. And I remember packing and leaving to go to my aunt's house. But I don't remember the beating itself. It's just blocked out and probably blessedly so.

I'd advise you to let it go and move on.

Best Wishes,

Sue

I am not from your area, so i guess you will have to check around on finding one. But the issues is yes hypnosis works on some people. Not all. The people it works on is usually more open minded, and it will proably be a shrink that does it. Cause i don't know and i am not going to ask what happen. You are going to have to be in a controled enivorment when he does the hypnosis on you. Cause you are going to need someone who knows what the heck they are doing. , and when to stop for the day.know when not to push that memory that has been stuffed back so far that you don't even remember it..... so again i must say you need to seek professional help with someone that is good with hypnosis in therapy. Hope this helps........

By the way Merry Christmas

I don't know about hypnosis but I know that forgiving this person is the only way you will have any freedom yourself. Otherwise you will be trapped wondering maybe getting more upset everyday and it will wear you out and this relative has to live with whatever they did and obviously hasn't forgiven themselves or they would not be bringing it up. I am telling you from experience, don't let it eat you up, forgive and move foward.
