I need ideas for my 7 and 10 year old boys to make money, they want a dog and we found one, but besides chores at home, we want them to earn their own money for the adoption fee.

This is a good idea but will be difficult to carry out. Your best bet is if there are kind people you are related to or work with or go to church with that would pay your kids for some sort of work [pulling weeds, raking, shoveling snow] and not be too picky. Maybe they could also look through their belongings and have their own garage sale, plus bake things to sell at their sale. There are these little kids in my neighborhood that every few months will go door-to-door selling necklaces they've made, for .50, to raise money for particular projects. Maybe they could collect cans and turn them in for cash. Maybe they could 'earn' money by skipping particular treats and you could pay them what you'd have paid for the treat.

Hmm... that's a tough one because you want to teach them responsibility, yet they have to be safe.

Is it cold there? How about having them (with your supervision) shovel snow the next time there's a storm?

Or else hold a garage sale. Around here it's too cold for one this time of year. But if you live in a warmer climate that would be successful.

You could also have them walk neighborhood dogs (again, with your supervision).

Or hold a bake sale at school and have part of the proceeds go to a charity. Make sure to clear this one with the principal.

Come on, be realistic, a seven and a ten year old? making them do chores is acceptable, it sounds like you are looking for a way out of having to get the dog. You know good and well there are no real ways for children that way to earn money other than doing chores for you or possibly the neighbors. You would not or should not want them to work for strangers.

First Give them some money for safe keeping. Then ask from them a loan. Give the benefit of the loan by given some incentive, ( Interest) Or give them some money for safe keeping. If they show you the same amount at the endo of one month give them 5% as bonus for safe keeping. Try to give them some financial responsibility. When ever you go for shopping, give the responsibility to them for buying some itmes. Ask them the full account as if you want to know becseu you are confused( not as a command or demand) Slowly bring them to financial planning and responsibility. They will slowly learn to be responsible for their expenses also.

Try letting them ask the neighbors if they need any yard work done. Let them call other family members and ask if they have any work they can do to earn money and have them state their case and what they are doing it for. I'm sure someone will put them to work for the pup.

well, it depends where you live, but I remember at 10, I would go house to house asking to shovel their sidewalks or driveways --- and I did it for just 2 dollars....If they didnt have snow, they would have me carry out trash or something ( I went with my sister )....I made a pretty good bit of money when I did that :P Just be creative and make sure they are safe!
