you can't miss something that was never there. Trust your mom she is trying to protect your heart she knows this man better then you.... I'm + she has good reason to think your wasting your energy and time on him. I have a 8 1/2 year old her dad walked out when she was 5 He has never called/seen/sent a card/paid support since. I hope with all my heart she will realize one day HE CHOOSE TO NOT BE THERE hopefully she won't spend her emotions on a man who never cared enough to send a birthday card. i know it sucks my dad was a dead beat too.

I don't think it's your dad you are missing in your life. I think it's something else and you think this may help because it's what everyone talks about now. I didn't know my father growing up and am thankful. I know and love my mother and trust her judgment. If he wasn't a good person why would I want to know him? She gave me all the love I needed and made me who I am. I don't want him to take any credit for that now that I am something.

If you feel in your heart that searching for him is the right thing to do, then by all means, search until your heart is content. But just a little warning, if the man hasnt seen you at all in 18 years, it would be wise if you do not hold your hopes too high. Be ready for disappointment.

hire a private eye first. Then ask him to find out what you can without having to show yourself. You never know, that guy might end up being a jerk which is why your mom is having you stay away from him
