planned waste. kind of like planned obsolescense. ie: american cars seldom last more than 120k miles, asian cars typically last 200 to 400k miles. american marketing is the best at selling what you don't need.

There is a real answer to this question, I think I saw it on the History channel but I forget at the moment what is was, I think it had something to do with manufacturing. But you can buy 8 weiners in a package, Oscar Meyer.

I wish I could think of a clever answer, but all I know is that it annoys the heck out of me. It's probably just because most companies don't really think about the consumer...just the best way to present the product to the consumer. We buy them anyways, mainly because we have to.
