Most everyone hates fruitcake, and when someone gives it to them they give it to someone else.
Here's a delicous cake that looks a lot like fruitcake, but tastes nothing like it.
The recipe was first published over 50 yrs ago in, I believe, the Good Housekeeping Cookbook. Our family has been making it all these years.

I have always liked fruitcake and make some for my husband every year. His relatives in Ireland like plum pudding which is a steamed fruitcake. I am under 80.

I'm wild about it! My great grandmother has a recipe for real, authentic candied fruitcake. I made it this year. Ton of work, but SO worth it!

I also like the little Claxton fruitcakes that you can buy at the grocery store.

I really wonder why so many people dislike it.

I love fruit cake, but since I started my paleo diet, I couldn't eat it because of suger/butter and some other stuff in it.

Since then I have experimented with a great fruit cake, made entirely out of fruit nuts and egg.. and not one person has really noticed the difference. (I didn't tell them - I had to ask - "Does it taste ok? I think it's a bit different to normal" and got replies "It's the best fruitcake you've made yet - did you do something different?")

It is totally free from added fat, sugar and other additives. very healthy, and low allergenic. Not Vegan though (as it has eggs)

If you want the recipe just ask.

No, I love fruitcake too. Especially when it's the kind you soak in brandy for two or three months. My mom used to make that, it was killer.
I don't eat the storebought kind, that's gross. But cut in slices it makes great christmas ornaments! (Kidding - but it is festive looking!)
I always clean up at Christmas because everyone gives me the fruitcake thier grandmas sent them!

The only fruit cake that I ever tried that was edible was this crazy recipe my sister brought home, when we were younger, it was for brandied fruit cake. You actually took canned fruit; peaches, pineapple and maraschino cherries, and ferment the fruit with a starter liquid and a cup of sugar with each fruit addition. This process took a month before the fruit was pickled enough to use. Personally I never cared for that funky candied fruit they put in the other kind of fruit cake.

I eat Claxton Fruit Cake from Claxton Georgia every year, you can soak it in Amaretto if you like. My Dad bought it from the Claxton Bakery when I was maybe 5 on up I am 67 now and still love it. And now it is sold all over, I bought mine in wal mart in Arkansas this year. Nobody else eats it in my family though, my kids think it is a joke like alot of people. Who cares? I'm enjoying life!!!
