I'm still in high school, and this guy who is in his second year in college asked me out. We work together at the local library. Would our going out create problems?

If you are prepared to lose your job at the library, then it's OK. Dating co-workers can only end up in a sexual harassment suit or one of you quitting.

The library job doesn't sound like it's a long term job, so I say go for it, but in a permanent position at a long term job at a respectable company, I would say definitely don't do it.

I personally don't like working with someone I date for the following reasons:

1) When you need time away you have no where to escape. (Example - You had an argument the night before and need to clear your head and think things out before you completely resolve the issue).

2) It has a tendency to put more pressure on you because you constantly see each other.

3) You have nothing to talk about at the end of the day because you perform close to the same tasks.

4) If you have a bad break up, work can become unbearable for both of you because you have to see each other..

Good Luck

Generally speaking this is a bad idea.

First, if either of you has authority over the other at work, this is probably against policy and may even be illegal.

Regardless of that, the real problems comes in if/when the relationship ends. Sometimes relationships end badly. (Sometimes even with relationships that end well, seeing each other daily will be too much.) Are you ready to leave the job if you need to...either to make the relationship work...or to survive after it's over?

Then, even if everything works out for you two, your "special relationship" will likely create tension with other people at work. Can you keep it really professional on the job, or do we have to worry about sneaking out back to make out while no one is looking?

Unless you're ready to leave this job if necessary for the sake of this relationship...I think the answer is don't do it, it'll be a trainwreck.

There are a few well known sayings about going out with people from work. I won't cite them here in the interests of good taste. However, it is generally not considered a good idea. Still...how else are you going to meet people? He might be a perfect guy for you. Sorry--its your call. Conventional wisdom says No, but there are good reasons you might be wise to say Yes.

If it's a job either of you care about, probably not a cool deal. The downside if it doesn't work is a bear if you have to work side by side. On the other hand, that's how I met my wife and we've been married for 11 years now.

I dated someone from my work and he always got me in trouble with my boss. I dont know if it was my guy but he always wanted to be where I was. It is risky to date someone from work but you can give it a try. I just had a bad experience from it. I am also in highschool and my ex was in his 3rd year of college. He became a little too clingy.

Don't set your heart on being with this person. As long as the age thing is ok than have fun.
