I remember coming across an interview done by Larry King on CNN with a highly acclaimed priest (coulnd't recall his name), Larry posed a valid question , " assuming there are two men, Mr. A and Mr. B, Mr. A, an atheists, througout his entire life, has done nothing but good deeds. Mr. B, who has done enough of evil acts his entire life, but he has faith in Jesus. The question now is, who gets to see father Lords in his afterlife?"
The answer by the latter is "MR. B no doubt about it". Mr. Larry then shoke hand with him and thanked him for coming. That particular scene has left more questions than answers, hasn't it? What's your view?

But we can't fault the priest can we? because he can't defy God's words can he?

as it is written men do not get saved by GOOD WORKS[lack of bold font], but by FAITH. if a man does only "good" and is not saved he is still a sinner naturally, because all have fallen short of the glory through adam because we are all from him and he passed on the curse to us, so Jesus died on the cross to redeem us so we may be free of judgement and hell with his blood.
the bad guy was saved so he goes to heaven( although you must do more after converting, you msut grow in the spirit). the good guy must have sinned, but even if he didnt, he is still tainted until he asks to be washed with the blood of Jesus Christ and be redeemed into true destiny and inheritance as it is supposed to be, like it was before the fall of man through adam.

>Mr. A, an atheists, througout his entire life,
>has done nothing but good deeds.
If Larry King actually posed that situation, he was posing a hypothetical situation which never would exist. It might be true that an Atheist throughout his entire life might have done many "good deeds" BUT no one, not even an Atheist, has done "nothing but good deeds".
Romans 3:23 & Romans 6:23
All have sinned and come SHORT of God's glory.
The wages of Sin is death
------------------------------------
>who gets to see father Lords in his afterlife?"
I can only guess what that question was intended to be.
Larry King seems to have phrased it very strangely.

uh! What? I have said this before and will again, I DO NOT HAVE TO ACCEPT ANYTHING. Now, with that being said, Jesus is and was so much more than a prophet. God did not call Moses, his only begotten son or anybody else. God did not say you must accept anything or anybody. Just Jesus. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no man cometh unto the Father, but by Jesus. PERIOD. In my opinion you do not have to wait until you admire Jesus to love him. You can love Him, because he gave his life for you, thats all the reason we need. PERIOD.

Thank you for asking a fine question. Ezekiel posed an almost identical question and answered opposite the priest. Paul also suggests that the unbelievers who follow the law and are ignorant of faith shall be punished less than those who have the faith but do not follow the law.
James in the NT seeks to address this issue also.

Under the Old Covenant you have to obey all God's laws (ie do good) to obtain God's blessings. The Old Covenant did not work because humankind cannot fulfilled its stringent requirements which includes in breaking one law you break all the commandments. Because of this Jesus had fulfilled the law for all mankind so that we do not do to receive salvation but only to believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. So the rule has changed with the coming of Jesus so that even if you behave like a saint all your life you would not go to heaven if you do not believe in Jesus. The ONLY condition now for us to go to heaven is to believe in Jesus as our Savior and Lord. That simple. That we should do good after we are saved is a matter of earning rewards in heaven and living a good life on earth. A Christian who sins will suffer in life on earth and not enjoy God's grace and gift of righteousness which bring blessings here and now.

1) I'm not christian. I am jewish.
2) I do not personally believe that jesus said that, but that basically it was an an embellishment added later by people using christianity to control people. telling them that they can talk to God personally just doesn't have the same "if you don't do what we say your boned" flavor.
3) the idea that a person could be evil, but believe some token "faith" concept like that, and be "saved" is an EVIL belief, IMO. eternal hell is something only an evil deity could come up with, doubly so when a person who behaved good, but lacked a trivial belief claim, could be sent there, is especially disgusting.
in Judaism there is a concept of a "righteous gentile".
the idea is that Jews, in normal circumstances, (assuming they haven't some gross outstanding, unrepented wrongdoing) get kinda a fast-track to your positive afterlife situation.
that non-Jews can still have a positive afterlife situation, but really its just not covered(definitely not sending them to hell or anything, just really not dealing with it)
a "righteous gentile" would kinda be like... someone getting the fast track, despite their not being jewish, since they were that good.
in Judaism you don't have to be perfect to begin with...
oh, btw, by jewish standards and belief, the whole idea of "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me " is in DIRECT opposition to "thou shalt have no other god's before me" its idolotry and blasphemy. (in judaism, anyone with the inclination to, and the honest interest to do so, can talk to God directly, without a mediator)

It just says you get to see God, it doesn't say God will let you into heaven or be pleased with you!
The Atheist doesn't get to see God. Afterall, why should they! They don't believe in God and deny God's existance. One would think the atheist wouldn't even CONSIDER ASKING TO SEE GOD.
This is a perk of being a Christian. You have a problem with something. You want to know something. You want to ask a question of God directly, it comes by the Son. Jesus walks you in to see him. All others, have to deal with funcationaries.

I think God will reward and punish us for our works.
Mr. A will will probably get a little slap for not believing in God. Obviously Mr. A will believe if he is now being judged y God. Mr. A will then be rewarded for all his good deeds. Mr. B will also be punished for his evil acts and rewarded for good deeds.

Atheists are half-right, in that if God is 'nothing' (ie the word) then God does not exist, although God exists....a paradox of sorts.
Getting back to your question, there are good Christians and bad Christians...and atheists.
Some athesists may be closer to God that some Christians...and Christians should be judged more severely because 'they should know better' !!!!!

The Bible also says that you cannot serve two masters. You cannot claim to be a Christian and live like the devil. Eventually one has to win over the other.
The Bible also says that God wants us either hot or cold because if we are lukewarm he will spit us out of his mouth.
You will know a Christian by their fruit and the love they have one for another.
