I have a friend who recently got a tattoo on her arm. She has a moderate amount of dark hair on her arm and wants to bleach it so the tattoo is showcased as best as possible.

I told her I was leery of putting bleach repeatedly on a tattoo. I'm not sure, but wouldn't that have even a slight effect on the vibrancy of the tattoo?
I know the ink is embedded deep into the skin....am I being overly cautious as my friend says?

If you bleach the hair over the tattoo, depending on how much you have, it will still hide it, in fact, if light from bleaching, the hair will reflect the light away so the tattoo will show less.

Hair bleaching does not damage tattoos but you would be better off getting rid of the hair.

Bleaching will have no affect on your friends tattoo as the pigment is deposited in the dermus below the skin, what will have an effect is how much of a tan she has and the natural darkness of the skin. Since the tattoo is beneath the skin, You can liken it to smoked glass windows the darker the glass the less you can see inside.

Hmm I think you're right to be iffy about it. Besides the fact that it could damage the tattoo, constant bleaching could really irritate her skin. I would tell her just to shave the hair around it. That way the hair will actually be gone and she won't be damaging her skin.

I would tell her to shave her arms. Even though I don't have any tatoos on my arms, I still shave mine and it helps them to look better.

When it comes to skin you can never be too careful - I don't know for sure - but your reasons are logical!@~
