Picture yourself talking to a basketball player. How would you feel if he condescendingly bent over to speak with you?

I don't know if it is socially acceptable. I would guess it would depend on the "little" person that you are crouching down to speak to and the reason behind you doing it.

I would try to find two chairs and ask if the other person would like to sit. If there are no chairs, then I wouldn't crouch down. You just may have to lean a little in case you can't hear the conversation.

heehee. If a man that is 7 foot tall crouched down to talk to me I would think that would be okay. Maybe the little people actually think that people of a normal height are abnormal looking. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be at the same eye-level as someone else when you are speaking with them.

not necessarily.

socially acceptable or not one must consider common courtesy. one would only crouch down to talk to a short person if that person were hard of hearing otherwise your attention to that person with an incline of the head would be sufficient.

No it is not acceptable. And the person who said midget- saying midget is unacceptable- use the term little people.

depends....are you crouching to make yourself seem less of a giant (which is socially uncool) or are you attempting to meet them eye to eye and actually pay attention to them as you or they speak?

Nope. Although if it were really noisy or one of you were hard of hearing and you needed to say something important, I don't think they would take as much of offense. However, for normal conversations, I think it would be considered rude.

If this person was a child, yes. But if the person is an adult, then no. It would offend the person you were addressing.
