1) Check for lumps--self breast examine. Raise your arm and feel around your breasts for lumps or differences. Do each breast.
2) See your doctor. Your OB/GYN will be able to point you in the right direction. Does it run in your genes? Talk with your doctor about procedures just in case.
3) Mammograms, if you are really concerned. Of course, you have to go through your doctor first.

Mine started as a little lump in my breast that grew over a couple of months. They say if they come and go or just stay the same size it is nothing to worry about, although I would talk to a doctor anyway. If it is something that gets progressively larger, then get to a doctor right away.
With mine, they did a needle biopsy where they drew the fluid out with a huge needle...scary but did not feel it at all. They also have a new machine out that can scan for cancer, but I don't know how often it is used.

Self-examination has the highest rate for discovering Breast Cancer. Can't remember the actual %.
Survival rate is available at the National Cancer Institutes's SEER (Surveillance Epidemiology & End Results) site. (see below)
The best survival rate is with early detection.
But the only one who can tell you is a Doctor.

u can check to see if u have breast cancer by yourself. you lay flat on your back on a bed or couch then roll up a kitchen towel and place it in your arm-pit and squeeze tightly, with ur shirt and bra off, take 3 fingers and rub around the breast. if you have breast cancer or any signs of it you will feel a rather large bump this bump will feel unnatural so be carefull in your judgment, sometimes it isn't cancer but to be sure you should go to a Doctor and ask how and where you could take a test, an exam, or an x-ray.

You go to a doctor and get a diagnosis.
Hopefully you've been doing monthly breast exams for changes.
If you are panicking right now because of a lump - is it time for your period? Do you drink a lot of caffeine? Are your breasts sensitive? Do you have a lump that hurts or is sensitive? If any of those questions are answered with yes, breath easier.
If you have a new lump that is not tender and feels different than the surrounding tissue, that may be an issue.
If you are concerned at all, go to the doctor. And if you aren't doing regular exams, start now.
