hello,
this is the 1st time i am visiting this page and i am pretty happy with ppl asking so many nice ques and getting replied with terrific ans.
to u'r ques anjum i think evry field has its own pros n cons and i bet u agree with that, i wish there was a field only with pros n pros...!
i am into dentistry from past 8yrs in bangalore and i have developed passion for my work,it needs lot of dedication, confidence and good craftman ship.when i started practicing competition was tough now down the lane its really getting tougher.having a PG along with u'r degree is an added advantage if u wanna go in as a asst prof it will also help u in u'r clinics as well.
As for now most of the general dentist are practicing good dentistry in endodontics, cosmetics and sometimes prostho n surgery.v have many CDE programmnes cmg out in orthodontics which i am into now and has given me much confidence to do cos ortho was kept hidden in pandora's box by all orthodontist from all this time.
I think u should go for it,dont just look at 32 ivory look as a whole face u will definitly brighten up someones dull face cmg to u'r clnic to a dashing one and he/she's gonna thank u from bottom of his/her heart and that moment u'r gonna cherish for being a dentist.

take care.
.

It just means you will have a wider experience and that is no bad thing . If you really want that career , then go for it . Two years may seem a lot at age 25/26 , but once in your 30's and 40's it is not Good luck we need plenty of dentists coming along in future

I'm 12 like Austin T :D and I wanna be a dentist too. The pros are that you receive a lot of money, and if you do your work properly, your patients will give you gifts like a little ring, a box of chocolates, etc. (my aunt is a young and beautiful dentist, so...) Now some cons:if you do something awfully wrong, you can be sewed, and you don't want this to happen, right?

I'm in dental school now. It's a very rewarding profession both financially and personally. I am intrigued by the ability to help patients and improve their lives.

Pros: Definitely rewarding if you are a people person and like helping people; the potential to own your practice and not have to work for anyone but yourself; good business hours; the prestige of being a Doctor of Dental Surgery; you can really make a lot of money if you want to...it all depends on how far you want to take it

Cons: Dental school is very hard - the classes are extremely demanding and the courseload is insane; it is really difficult to get accepted to dental school - probably the hardest professional school to get in to these days because of high interest and very few open spots

Good luck with your decision!

Well there's a very sincere advice to you. Think over it. If u want to be doctor then make sure your parents are having good hefty money to spend either on your MDS or opening a well established clinic. With growing reservations around you will feel really disheartened later on and feel pity about yourself. It will be paying good if u r ready to practise in villages, otherwise cities are full of specialist dentist

You have to be immune in mouths. BUt it's a good thing that you want to be a dentist. This is a very practical job. You can help other people and teeth is a need of every person. We eat everyday. Just have pure intentions and be gentle to your patients. I have braces and my dentist is very kind and gentle. She gave me her contact number and as much as possible, she is available when I need to meet her. God Bless Your decision.

It is a highly paying profession - and if you specialise in Cosmetic Dentistry as well, you will have all the movers and shakers of your city lining up at your clinic, with loaded purses, for getting an appointment !
But, you will have to put up with your patients' foul mouth-odour all the time, while treating them. And this can be really nauseating !

Dentistry is a very filling occupation. But there are times when it can be like pulling teeth.
