It is great racing that has made this the greatest sport in the world and restrictor plates live up to that billing. It is just a different type of racing, and thank God for that. I'm getting sick of 1.5 to 2 mile D shaped ovals. NASCAR needs variety! The restrictor plates cause the driver to think differently about how to win the race. It's drafting, positioning, pit strategy and teamwork that win at the superspeedways. The drivers do not use the same strategy at Sears Point that they do at Charlotte, then when they go to Martinsville it's a whole new ball game again. So why not have another completely unique type of racing on the schedule?
The restrictor plate races are just another aspect of NASCAR, one more thing that you must master if you want to be called the Cup Champion.

there are only 2 tracks that nascar uses the plates.daytona and talladega,as u know.
in my opinion the plates actually make for more unsafe racing than without them.with the plates these cars can not race to their potential.there are 43 cars within 2 seconds of each other.2 cars bump there are usually 10 or more cars in the aftermath.i say take the plates off so the racing is not so tight.allthough i do like the close racing myself.
one of ur answers was to change the tracks.track owners are not going to pay to make their tracks "less" than what they are.people pay to see these tracks and the races.
another answer said to take the spoilers off.......this will slow the cars in the corners, man but on the straights they would be rocketships.
my solution would be to raise the spoilers on the rear of the cars to a higher angle, raise the front airdam up from the track to allow more air under the cars, and lastly.......just simply lower the horsepower of the motor in the building process.smaller carbs, change the internal parts of the motor to make less hp.

To equalize the racing to eliminate "restrictor plates" NASCAR needs a sealed engine just for the plate races.
This system was used by the old ASA to keep cost down. The same system could be used by NASCAR to build a non-plate engine.
To keep teams from tampering with the engines,if the seals are broken the team would have event points pulled for the first offense,Loss of points and fined for the 2 ND time,The the 3RD time Lost of points, fine, suspension for the team next race(team is crew chief, crew, owner, driver, and car).yes this is sever but the only way to keep cheating from happening.

With the wall or other cars.
Fender flare or larger spoiler could slow them down...or just put a limiter on the speed.
Why would anyone say a smaller engine? We have these large racecars and we are going to put a small 4 cylinder engine in them and then race them at speeds of over 200 mph. Then you will see them flying into the stands, because they would not stay on the track.

I'd like to see the cars run at full speed without restrictor plates, but we all know the safety factor gets pretty small for the fans.

Less angle on the turns. The more angled the corners are the faster you can take them. If you notice most restrictor plate races happen on tracks with wide steep turns. That allows for more speed. Its the reason road course races do not have restrictor plates. They have no steep wide corners.

The Car of Tomorrow is a start. But bringing in fuel injection would be a better solution. The reasoning behind my theory, if Nascar were to use EFI, they could electronically limit the rpm's the engines turn, and the amount of fuel the engines get.

What would you consider a safe racing speed? Tracks like AMS and TMS can produce speeds higher than the speeds that originally brought about the plates.

Craftsman truck series don't use "plates" @ Daytona or Talladega because the roof of the truck is higher than the roof on the cars.
Seems to me all the have to do is raise the roof.
But I'm no engineer, there could some other factor their not telling us.
