Your vet should have given you aftercare instructions. Follow them cloesly. Depending on where his stitches are in his throat, an E-collar (those ridiculous-looking cone shaped things) might help keep him from scratching the wound. Ask your vet though, because it would make it worse to have it rubbing the wound.

Its an open would and so should be treated with care. Try to keep your dog from licking or scratching (not that he could lick his own throat, but in general) the wound, and don't put a collar on him that could rub and irritate the stitches. Stiches will come out in a week to 10 days and can be removed by you, or you can take the dog back to the vet.

Just beware foreign objects in the wound and it it's looking particularly contaminateed, put a little hydrogen preoxide on it. Otherwise leaving it alone should be fine. Just keep an eye on it.

Basically follow your vet's instructions, and don't be afraid to call the vet again if anythign funny happens

If the dog just had surgery on his trachea then he should still be at the vet's and not home with you. Since he had surgery on his throat he can not have an e-collar on because that could rip out his sutures. You need to make sure he does not scratch his wound and take all the medications given to you by your vet. If he starts to get sick you need to call your vet right away or take him to a 24 hour clinic.

Keep the wound covered for a period of time with an ace bandage after five days take it of and see what it looks like if it is infected at all see your vet imedately!your vet should have given you medicine for the wound make sure you put on as much as the vet said to and do it when the vet told you to because if you don't the wound could get infected.

Your vet should of gave you some pain medicine and some cream for the wound area so it would not get infected...also you should ask for a e-collar just in case the dog starts to rub against something and pulls the stiches out and open up and get a really bad infection...hope this helps and good luck...

The best thing to do, is to give the vet that did the surgery a call, and ask him what he suggests. Don't try to treat it yourself, because you may unintentionally do more harm than good. I'm really surprised that your vet did not give you aftercare instructions.

I guess put Hydrogen Peroxide on it. It takes any infections out.
