Considering the 97 Dodge Ram intake pulls from the left fender and it's almost truely cold air, will just adding a K&N filter to my stock filter box be worth it or should I just stay with the typical Fram/Purolator? I mean I know it's not going to be like adding a complete cold air intake but will it change any specs hp,tq or mileage wise?

it will help it some,,we added one to a 2000 model and so far its doing good ,and i agree with you it being mounted on the left side helps it to be almost a cold air intake,,but the filter will help it some,,i think you,ll notice a small difference in at the very least,,what it will help is the mileage a lot,,but over all its going to be worth it,good luck hope this help,s.,,merry x-mas.

My 97 Ram pulls air from the right (passenger) side. And yes the K & N is a better filter and that is reflected in the price. Check K & N website for the information as to exactly what it will accomplish, but be advised, they peak the vehicle out to best performance before switching. Your performance should increase in the same percentage as theirs, but may not be as high.

You did no longer specify all of the significant factors yet my first theory is that your motor vehicle has a grab fan it is malfunctioning (staying engaged in any respect temperatures) and once you "floor it" the and the engine revs up, the grab must be enticing particularly of slipping like regular and turning the fan in direct share to the engine RPM. this would make a noisy blowing sound such as you describe. In regular operation the fan grab slips to permit the engine to run as effectively as conceivable on the same time as staying in the traditional temperature variety. The fan grab commonly engages in basic terms whilst the engine temperature is going above 2 hundred tiers F on a save away from (210 F on a Chevy or Ford) to entice extra airflow and funky the radiator right down to the traditional temperature. stable success.

K& N filters use oil to capture dust, they also dont filter as well increasing air intake, I would stick with the stock filter, all you will or might gain with the K& N is 1 mile per gallon, certainly not enough to warrant shortening your engine life with the particals that slip through the bigger filter
