During my partying days, I used to drink Red Bull to stay awake. I stopped drinking it because I didn't like the way it made me feel (wired, strung out, etc.) You're better off drinking coffee or green tea. Please read the How Stuff Works article on energy drinks (URL below); here is an excerpt:
"Energy drinks are generally safe, but like most things, you should drink them in moderation. Because caffeine is a stimulant -- consuming a lot of it can lead to heart palpitations, anxiety and insomnia -- it also can make you feel jittery and irritable. Over time, caffeine can become addictive.
Red Bull Banned!
Red Bull may be the best selling energy drink in the United States, but it isn't so popular in other countries. In 2000, the French government decided to ban Red Bull after the brand was linked to the death of an 18-year-old Irish athlete. The teenager died after drinking four cans of Red Bull at a game. French laws dictate the maximum amount of caffeine that companies can add to products, and Red Bull exceeds that limit. Denmark and Norway have also banned the drink. Other countries, such as Canada, require the can to carry a warning label for pregnant women and children."

Nutritionists warn that the drinks, laden with caffeine and sugar, can hook kids on an unhealthy jolt-and-crash cycle. The caffeine comes from multiple sources, making it hard to tell how much the drinks contain. Some have B vitamins, which when taken in megadoses can cause rapid heartbeat, and numbness and tingling in the hands and feet.
Not sure if it is true but have read a few articles that state Canada and France are banning Redbull. Don't know if thats true but may be worth checking into.

Yes, red bull is not good for you because of the high sugar content. If you want an energy drink that doesn't give you a heart attack, try XS. I drink 2 a day, and it gives me tons of energy without shakes or too much caffeine.

Reb Bull has a large amount of caffiene, and that can definantly make your heart beat faster. It does not do it to everyone, it depends on how your body takes large amounts of caffiene.
