a little alcohol and alot of patience. and if that doesn't work, quit using the alcohol on the spot in the carpet, get good'n'likkered up, puke on the carpet, and then you have a good reason to replace the carpet. replace the carpet and voila(!) problem solved.
this is really a problem with paint in carpet, because hard scrubbing tends to unravel the fabric and then it shows as another kind of damage no joke, so replacing the carpet is not so far-fetched or funny. and you don't have to get drunk first, (though you may really want to after you price carpet)

Oxy Clean (available at most grocery stores)
I've found it will pull out paint without affecting the carpet.
Just follow package instructions, but don't get discouraged; sometimes it takes more than one treatment.

try pouring hot water on it then put about two cups of salt on top of it and see if it will pull the color out
