Went to a party and we all took gifts to exchange and I got this box very well wrapped in very good paper and when i opened it there was only air in the box.
Actually i thought it was quite funny.

You got a 'stunt' gift. It's a decorative ploy. People wrap empty boxes just so they look good. It makes the place look more festive. It's common in retail stores and over the past few years I've seem people do this in their homes. Usually their serial gift-wrappers who just enjoy creating beautiful presents. Sounds like someone didn't realize it and gave you one of the 'stunt' boxes instead of a real one.
However if you want to look at the esoteric side -- it symbolically means that you have an awesome amount of pure potential this year!
Now just go out and buy yourself a gift and make sure it says something about the faith you have in yourself and this potential.

I think that is funny, the person may have not been able to aford a gift and was embarrased to turn up without the gift or perhaps they asked a child to wrap it and the child wrapped the box or someone has a really good sense of humor- sorry you missed out on the joy of recieving but at the same time you did recieve joy ( the intention of the gift) it is something you will allways treasure and remember as it will allways make you smile-the best bit is you can share it with someone else and make them smile too------good one.

Sounds like someone forgot to put the gift in the box before wrapping it. I can't figure what significance an empty box would have.

haha--sounds like some loser wanted a gift, so they brought a wrapped box. if it's an anonymous exchange, he comes out ahead.
