About a month ago I started dating this really nice guy. Then he had a major personality change 1 week in, and became violent.
Example: kicking chairs, hitting walls, etc.
He even swung at me once. I was scared so I got out. Then he started stalking me, sending me scary emails, and calling me constantly. I was so afraid that my dad would walk with me to my college classes, and many of my friends made sure that I was never went anywhere alone.

About 2 weeks ago he stopped.

Now I have a new boyfriend, and my ex is back, trying everything to get us to seperate.

How can I get me ex to leave me alone so I can move on?

I would keep up the practice of not going anywhere alone at least for a while.... either your dad or your boyfriend or even another female friend. I am not trying to scare you but it seems like this ex of yours has serious issues and if it were me, I would always make sure I had someone with me.

You could also talk to the police about him... tell them what has happened, and be specific about the harassing phone calls and email, especially if they are threatening and try to keep a record of the contacts he makes. If you talk to someone and let them know what has been going on it might be a good idea. Even let your RA or RD know (or whoever is in charge of your dorm). You don't have to be embarrassed and you can ask that the information be kept confidential. This could help if they see him around your classes or dorm or whatever.

Either way, it's good that you got out of that relationship BEFORE it went any further. That was a smart move on your part to notice these signs of a violent personality and behaviour.

Use the buddy system, always.

Well first off all...you started dating this guy a month ago and now you already have a new boyfriend? That is part of your problem right there, why dont you slow down a bit and you will see these tendencies in guys before you get all into it... I mean how can you even call him your ex? You barely went out with him....but anyway...

As for the guy...he might have given up, but you never know...I would be worried if you see him or he calls/writes. You might have to get a PPO but that might anger him more...some of us are crazy.

Get a restraining order, and document the times he has harrassed you. If he contacts you at all after the restraining order, contact the authorities immediately. Actually, if his actions are at all threatening at this point, call the police anyway--perhaps they can get him on terrorist threat, etc.

Above all, be careful. He sounds nuts, and a restraining order is just a piece of paper. It doesn't deter everyone. Keep taking the protective measures you took before while the legal system does its work.

1). A Restraining Order
2). Save the emails-print them for step # 4
3). Save your phone bills or call history for step # 4
4). Go down to the police station, in person and present the stuff from steps 2 & 3.
5). The police will issue a TRO Temp Restraining Order.

Good luck.

If your new boyfriend was a MAN he would beat him up! Just understand guys need to get beaten up to realize a point sometimes! Just let someone who can show him who's boss punk him and tell him to leave you alone or he is going to get a beating and if he continues have him do just that!

Call the cops and get a restraining order. It he comes near you call the cops. You could always get your big brother , sister, or this new boyfriend to run up on him.

Please by all means call the police get the restraining order. It is only a piece of paper but once he violates it he goes to jail. Hopefully it will not go that far hopefully that will be his wake up call.

Sounds like you have moved on! It is him who needs a reality check! If he is harassing you that much, put a restraining order on him!
