Why would she be with an unemployed man who lives at home with his mom? She needs to get herself a real man.

you really blew it. she'll remember that one forever. now if you had followed that stocking with something sweet and nice then yeah the coal thing could've been a joke. i mean you could've made her dinner or given her some nice free coupons (like a free massage, or kiss whenever). when you're broke then you have to be creative. gifts don't always have to be expensive. don't you have a job and could've saved just a little cash to by her a little something. not like you didn't know xmas was coming. if i were her i'd dump you asap. if she didn't then she's too nice and likes being taken advantage of. she has a right to be mad. it's not to late though to make up. call her and try to fix it.

A gift is not about how much money you spend on it....its the amount of thought you put into it. You could have done something alot more special to make up for being low on money. She is right to be mad. It was a very bad idea

I can completely understand why she would be mad.A lump of coal is a mean present,if you were concern with her being mad at you you would have put more thought into her present then a lump of coal.It sound like your girlfriend has more consideration for your feeling then you have for her if you. If you want to keep her try to be more thoughtful.

Dude..a stocking of coal?..no offense but that was really dumb..Being poor and all has nothing to do with it..The best gift you can give a lover is yourself...she being your lover should understand..but if you buy her a gift like that..wow...next time you give her a gift..buy her a single flower..it will mean alot to her...

The measure of a "good" gift is in the eye of the beholder.
The fact that you're still LOL'ing while suggesting she is mad, makes me think there's a communication problem here. You give someone a gift to make them happy, not to amuse yourself.
To be fair, it may just be this is not the girl for you...and you need to find someone who can share your sense of humor. A lifetime without shared humor may seem long indeed.

If your gift actually made her "mad," this may tell you she lacks a sense of humor -- or at least a sense of humor compatible with yours. Particularly considering your circumstances, which you say she's aware of, I think your gift was imaginative and in a sense thoughtful. She might have enjoyed the idea that you considered her a baaaaaaaaaaad girl! There are other women who would have enjoyed your gift. It was apparently not a "good gift" for her.

Although you may think this would be funny, I think you should have had a back up. In fact I am not sure I can even believe someone would even attempt this. (How could anyone seriously NOT know what would happen)
It will soon be a new year, get a job and a life. (and she may be getting a new man)

Did she laugh? I would call her and make sure she was ok with it. If she knows and understands your situation she shouldn't be mad. If she is mad tell her that you love her and it was a joke. Then try to make up for it on her birthday or next christmas.
